I don't give a sht how babies were made 50,000 years ago! It doesn't make it appropriate to go down on your husband while the kids are in the bed watching Barney!
FOr what I think is at least the fourth time: THe kids are asleep when mom and dad are having sex.

Would your dad HELP you clean it out? My parents were like that. They wanted tasks to do while they visited. Put 'em to work, and they're happy.
My dad would clean it himself if he could, but there is no point in even trying until we get most of the crap out of there. I used to think, hey, we could sell these toys. But when we made less than $100 on our garage sale, I was over it. I've tried selling on craigslist, with lots of pictures, but the people interested never follow through. We are not going to make very much on any of it. But my wife is insistent that she is going to take it to the second hand kid stuff store. After last night, I'm gonna be pushing that hard. Get it done. get it gone Give me back my garage for our cars.

Think American Indians long houses. The entire tribe lived in one building.

Only if you consider the current nuclear family the historical norm. You don't have to go too far back in time to start finding more and more cultures where the household was not just husband+wife+children (when they arrived) but even extended/multiple families in rather small spaces.

Isn't that funny? My mom is bugging me about getting new glasses. She's offered to pay. again and again. Mom, I can afford them, but I just don't THINK about it. Even though I no longer can read street signs, license plates, scores on TV, etc.
Exactly! Plus, the freezer (almost new when it died) has been a great place to hide Christmas gifts and fry sweaters (on top)!!! I wouldn't think of glasses either except that for the last 2 years I needed to use up flex spending money and did so by getting new glasses! This year I got a pair of purple glasses and new sunglasses! I pick them up thsi week!

Must be your location. Usually toys go like crazy! My 10 yo made $143 selling some toys a few weeks ago (and she does a couple a year between my house and her Dad's). Of course, some of that money was from selling cookies and lemonade!:-) My general rule is that, after a garage sale, almost nothing goes back into the garage/house. It all gets donated from there.

$100 is not much for how much work it takes to get ready for a garage sale, not even counting the actual garage sale time.

But please, don't let what I really said prevent you from gross exaggeration.

We're among the least homogenous countries on earth. Hence, many different cultures and traditions.
We are NOT a country of immigrants, I HATE that argument. We WERE a country of immigrants 200 years ago. Most of us are third, fourth and fifth generation. We are Americans, we are not "immigrants."

And lack of assimilation into American culture is what's destroying this country.

And finally, in the backwoods of Kersplakistahn, mercy killings are socially acceptable. So they should also be acceptable here, right?

Fine. Deal with mercy killings. And being fully covered when you're out in public. Accompanied. And you're not allowed to drive.

Heck, my great-grandma was born in a two room cottage (that's two rooms total, not two bedrooms) in a rural area in Europe, and she was one of many children.

what edog doesn't get is, if this (having sex in the same room as sleeping children) had been a real problem, it would have been known by all by now. but it hasn't been.

I don't "approve" of the *family bed*. I just don't. But I know families who practice it and it works for them. I would NEVER do it. But families have been doing it for longer than they HAVEN'T been doing it (based on socioeconomic limitations), and families/children were FINE.

MY discomfort -- or his lack of knowledge -- shouldn't dictate how families raise their kids.
