Who says it is being performed in front of them? They may be in the same room, but probably asleep, so no mental anguish was done to the kids.

I am not going to agree that it would be okay in a house with one bedroom, but not okay in a house with two. The number of bedrooms does not dictate the appropriateness of performing sex acts in front of children.

So... it's perfectly okay to have sex in front of your children?
There is a difference betwen shwing off on teh family rooom couch and a family in a single bedroom with mom and dad doing it under the sheets.

A large portion of the world still lives that way. Two bedroom appartments for a single nuclear family are not the norm.

Take a look at the original letter. LW had gone into parents room. If Dad started after kid came in, its skeevy but but not exhibitionist

LW2: You have a choice to make. You can either step up and be a good mother substitute for Lucy, place her in foster care, or find a family who will give her a stable home. Hawaiian people sometimes "hanai" children to another family. It is an unofficial kind of open adoption. The child is raised by a family who is able to raise him/her but always knows who his/her birth family is. If you don't choose well now, this child may grow up to be a druggie just like her mother. I think there are too many grandparents who are overwhelmed trying to raise children and who refuse to consider other alternatives. My good friend's cousin is being raised by his great-grandparents! They are in their 70s with health problems. Ugh.

They're not performing in front of their kids. Kids go to bed/sleep before parents do, typically. Kids are sleep, an hour or two later, parents go to bed, start to get their one-back-beast going, kids probably don't even wake up.

So how do you think that babies were made, say 5,000 years ago, when indeginous tribes roamed the plains? Did they have a special sex teepee? Only in the summer when you could do it outside and not freeze to death? Put the kids out in the dark and risk them being eating by predators so the parents could do it ?

Would your dad HELP you clean it out? My parents were like that. They wanted tasks to do while they visited. Put 'em to work, and they're happy.
My Dad is always organizing my garage when I'm at work. It's great! I have a broken freezer in there that I keep forgetting to call the city about, though, and it's driving him BATTY (along with the sand bags from last hurricane season). He brings up the freezer every time I see him.

Isn't that funny? My mom is bugging me about getting new glasses. She's offered to pay. again and again. Mom, I can afford them, but I just don't THINK about it. Even though I no longer can read street signs, license plates, scores on TV, etc.

Just because something makes YOU uncomfortable (bathing with a child, having sex in the same room where children are sleeping), doesn't mean it's wrong.

I don't give a sht how babies were made 50,000 years ago! It doesn't make it appropriate to go down on your husband while the kids are in the bed watching Barney!

LW2 - I really feel for the LW because as an extreme introvert, I too am drained when there is no alone time. I could not give up an abandoned child to CPS. I would try to find some way of getting my breathing room and still keep the poor kid. Giving up the child is not an option but arranging for some kind of shared custody with the grandparents or someone else is. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I gave the child to CPS. This kid has already been left by the mother, don't compound the injury.

I know. Societal norms, and even the law, usually makes that determination. Just because something is okay to YOU, doesn't mean it's okay in general, either.

Only if you consider the current nuclear family the historical norm. You don't have to go too far back in time to start finding more and more cultures where the household was not just husband+wife+children (when they arrived) but even extended/multiple families in rather small spaces.

We're a country of immigrants. Your culture isn't MY culture.

We're among the least homogenous countries on earth. Hence, many different cultures and traditions.
