It's not about "what you do in the bedroom"! What -- if anything -- you do in the bedroom really IS private. But who you're sharing your life WITH is generally pretty public!
Almost every day when Ellen comes on I get the joy of listening to some twit in my waiting room start in with the "Why do they have to tell us they're gay -- who cares --sexuality should be private -- blah blah blah etc...." routine.
Sure, Buddy (or Lady). How'd you like having to hide who YOUR wife or husband is?
And amazingly, every once in a while someone's eyes light up and they GET it.
I love Ellen's show.

LW1 - Is this letter writer for real? They get treated like they are treating their gay neighbors and they don't understand! This is as clueless as you can get. Ain't karma a beotch?

Amazing how you're so tolerant and accepting, yet you're the same one who said Jesus was a diaper wearing... whatever.

Ah, liberals

A gay parade down the city street is okay, but how dare anyone say Merry Christmas in public

It's okay to to kill an unborn baby, but how dare we kill a convicted murderer

Bush was a lame duck his last two years in office, but everything was his fault. Democrats control the White House and Senate yet everything is the fault of... House Republicans

Your hypocrisy is astounding

You're still on that fake, wrong Merry Christmas public thing, huh?

HA!

Not me. Screw the gay/straight crap--no way would cheluzal ever invite lots of her neighbors over for gatherings. Cheluzal is an anti-social introvert who thinks high fences make good neighbors. A wave in passing is all I can take from mine.

Why do people have this weird need to be liked by everyone?
FWIW, I would have no problem inviting them over (shocking to the name-callers, I'm sure) but I won't begrudge anyone who chooses TO or NOT to invite anyone....your house; your party; your rules.

Yeah, I've no problem with spanking....BUT...this entire letter made me think of my youngest niece and if some guy was spanking her and none of us knew (esp. my SIL), I would be less than amused. It is not cool.....but how is she spending alone time with him in the first place, I wonder??

LW1 better be a fake letter from the University of Floida at Tampa.

LW3 did not need to give the lone star state a bad name either.

Well... maybe 14 is a little old to still get spanked, and if it's a girl, that might seem more inappropriate.... BUT, he is using a belt, so there's no hand to @zz contact. AND he's been a "father" to this child for the last six years. I dunno, maybe I can agree that on the outside, a kid getting a paddling from a non-family member or teacher sounds wrong, but, how much of a "father figure" is he to this kid? Is he supporting zee or the mother or both financially? Is he in a relationship with the mother? I mean, I'm just saying that I don't disagree with an adult in charge doling out corporal punishment, but will agree that the secretiveness, the sex of the kid, the overall intentions of the man, does raise an issue.

But to me, there's just not enough information to support running to the cops. But think a talk with the mother is definitely in order. By both the kid and the man.

Of course, everyone knows where they stand. But they're not hypocritical. Liberals are so inconstant in their views they leave heads spinning.

"We support personal freedoms except smoking, Christianity, and carrying guns because they can hurt others! But abortion is okay because it has no effect on another human life!...Right?? And Islam. Islam is okay but Christians are nothing but hateful bigoted homophobes!"

Good Lord, how do grownup adult people not recognize a Dan Savage quote when you hear one? Are yinz really that sheltered?

"Hot Guy in a diaper, etc...." is a Dan-ism explaining why Catholic churches are major kink factories (which they really ARE!) We expose little kids to this blatantly sexual, sadomasochistic imagery, and then tell them it's a sin to have "impure thoughts!" Yeah, right.

Personally, I always thought of it as more of a loincloth anyway. But whatever He is wearing on the Crucifix, it's most definitely artistic license -- because the Romans crucified their criminals NEKKID, and Jesus would have been no exception. Do you really, truly not know this?

And I frequently say Merry Christmas in public. I also say Happy Holidays, especially if I don't know the faith tradition of my listener (or if I know that they're something other than Christian!) There are quite a few Holidays (HOLY Days) on the calendar during the late fall/early winter. And really, is someone really objecting to calling Christmas a HOLY DAY?

We probably drive past a dozen or so Heterosexual Pride Fests every Saturday. They are called "Weddings."

I don't do Dan Savage. I find him an insufferable hate filled heterophobe. And I didn't realize weddings were heterosexual pride fests. So what are gay weddings?

I don't advocate running to the cops (shoot-CPS is evil, IMO) but it boils down to one major issue: the mom does NOT know. That's huge. If mom approves, fine. If not, get thee away from my child.
I would never spank a boy I was a "mother figure" to without the parent's permission. And I doubt I would spank a 14 y/o. It's ineffective by then....

If I was 14 and a smoking hot chick threatened to put me over her knee, you could bet I was gonna be as bad as I had to be.

I'll bet.
And the boy being "raped" by their teachers aren't as victimized as the girls raped by male teachers.
Double standards stink but they are a reality.
