None-the-less, I still try not to touch communal items. And I will wear gloves on the rare occasion that I might have to pump gas or touch something some other scumbag might have used before me.
On the rare occasion that you have to get gas? Is filling the tank not a regular occurrence in your world?

And do you carry gloves around with you on the off-chance of having to push the buttons on the ATM or to grab the handle of a door to a public building?

I work in a professional building ... corporate headquarters. You should see how many men, who use the urinal either don't wash their hands or just rinse them with water. I always wash my hands, but now imagine all the door knobs they touch walking back to their office. Now I have to touch those door knobs too on my way back to my office. I may as well just ask them if they need help shaking it when they are done. Pigs.
My male co-workers/friends have told me the same thing--also a professional building with, yanno, educated adults. One of my co-workers was known for standing like a foot back from the urinal, which, I would imagine is pretty weird. Not washing hands is very rare among women, which is bass ackward, because we don't have to touch anything except the flusher and the stall door handle.

Maybe he drives a Prius?
And the sanitation hypochondriacs are usually more often to get sick.
The average keyboard has more germs than the average toilet seat.

I think I read that the average cell phone and TV remote are filthy.

Since shortening my commute time by 50%, I can go a long time without refueling.

Especially cell phones. Who can poop without a smartphone these days?

Would you consider it rare? Even if I had to fill up only once a month, I would not consider it rare. To me, rare kind of equates to not often AND unexpected. I have to file a tax return every year, but I would never say that filing taxes was a rare thing.

No, not "rare." "rare" to me for getting gas for my car would be maybe... 2-4 times a year.

My guess is that the person who calls it rare ... isn't the person who usually fills his or her own car.

My MIL drives, but my FIL takes the car to the gas station.
