Current situation: Staffers talk about first meeting with Al Jazeera

ust call him Al Gorezeera.
Yesterday morning, the still shell shocked staff at Current TV was called to an all hands staff meeting at its San Francisco headquarters, which was teleconferenced to their offices in LA and NYC, to meet their new bosses.
That would be two of Al Jazeera’s top guys: Ehab Al Shihabi, executive director of international operations, and Muftah AlSuwaidan, general manager of the London bureau.
Ominously missing was the creator of Current, the self proclaimed inventor of the Internet and savior of clean energy, Al Gore, although his partner, Joel Hyatt, stood proudly with the Al Jazeera honchos.
“Of course Al didn’t show up,” said one high placed Current staffer.“He has no credibility.
“He’s supposed to be the face of clean energy and just sold [the channel] to very big oil, the emir of Qatar! Current never even took big oil advertising—and Al Gore, that bulls***ter sells to the emir?”
The meeting, while not contentious, was, according to staffers who spoke on the condition of anonymity, miserable....

Yeah, I heard about that. Al Jazeera has been trying to get onto American cable for a long time, and now their strategy is to buy Current and use it's existing contracts. I wonder how many Current watchers will even notice? Time Warner is saying they'll just break the contract and pay whatever penalty that come up.
Regardless, you couldn't have gotten much further off topic without a rocket and a match.

We will have Al Jazeera to balance FOX. Perhaps that will be fair and balanced.

AJ will just be another one of those channels people skip over, but it will be worth having it on cable just to watch FOXers spit, spin and foam at the mouth. Again.

Not off topic, Al Gore sold out to a company owned by an OPEC founder. We've always warned you, climate change mitigation is a hoax to drive up fossil fuel prices and give more wealth to OPEC.

Yeah, I get that you wanted a dig at Gore. Here, let me help you out.
That Pelosi sure is smart - and competent, too!
Isn't Hillary just the cutest woman you ever laid eyes on?
I'll bet Reid would make a great POTUS - he should run in 2014.
If the Republicans would just get out of the way, I'll bet Obama could get cap and trade global in a year and a half.

Conserving fossil fuels drives up OPEC profits? Howz that - by strategic manipulation of supply and demand? Good one. Is that sorta like outsourcing and offshoring creates better paying American jobs by making them more scarce?

Actually it’s about the money. Supply and demand has little influence on the price of oil. We have more supply today and the prices continue to rise. The oil barons say by 2020 the Great USA will produce enough oil for this Great Country will have a self sustained status. Now this statement is a cut and paste statement from another source. No I did not research the truth of that statement.

Been the same here, except our lakes haven't frozen in 10 out of the last 10 years. Once in a while, lakes used to freeze over when I was a kid & my grandparents remembered iced lakes & community skating, lots when they were kids.

If you'd waited till the end of winter, you could have gotten a new one at a used blower price.

Exactly! Our government's fuel policy makes us more reliant on foreign oil by discouraging the production and use of energy and fuel. It takes a basic commodity and adds an extra-market constraint to increase its price, making it more expensive for the consumer and more profitable for the producer. There's more profit margin in diamonds than in coal.

ChromiuMan wrote:

Importing foreign goods keeps prices lower by letting the market find the most efficient workers and consumers. Factories were closed by unions increasing wages, government adding regulation and foreign workers able to produce quality goods at low prices.

I'm in favor of free trade; that's one of the few good ideas liberal have given us.
