Are you talking about the Banking and Insurance Union?
No, mike is talking about labor unions. Although I will concede that, like other government-supported parasites, the banking and insurance industries are on the same level as labor unions. It's called "corporate fascism".

Howling at the moon about the perceived cultural and moral shortcomings of a union just exposes your own lack of sophistication and maturity.

What a surprise, democrats/liberals wnat to take away the secret ballot from union members? They probably won't intimidate them at all to vote their way, right? Naahhh. Nice, wholesome, trusting people, like Frank Calabrese and Ed Hanley, or Jimmy Hoffa. Real trusting people that buy Democrat politicians' votes. KEEP THE SECRET BALLOT IN PLACE YOU LIBERAL DEMOCRAT CROOKS!!!

Blah, blah, blah. what an unintelligent, uneducated response you give. Fact: Union-run organizations are the least efficient organizations in the country. Fact: The reason GM is failing is NOT because they can't sell enough cars (up until last year, they sold more than anyone else in the world!), it is because the crooked Democrat controlled unions are bilking GM of any money it may make! Fact: people like you are part of the problem in America. Go away you socialist puke.

That response to Diws was a response HE made on another posting board. I agree with you that it was "an unintelligent, uneducated response you give". Thank you for supporting my position. The so-called "Facts" you give are nothing more than blowhard OPINION. You obviously know NOTHING about Unions in this country. Pinheads like you want to throw every different kind of labor union in one category and lazily blame them for all of this country's economic woes. Without labor unions, most construction work done would be by workers with no training or vastly inferior training than what is received during an apprenticeship. Yeah, you pay morer in up-front labor costs. But, work is GUARANTEED and done correctly, reducing insurance and maintenance costs exponentially. Without manufacturing unions, some workers are forced to work in unhealthy and unsafe environments for paltry wages. Yes, SOME UNIONS ARE CROOKED. But the vast majority are fair and honest in their dealings with management and the ran and file. Their business is to keep their workers working. It kind of defeats the purpose to do otherwise. Until unions came along, management took extreme advantage of labor. You are majorly deluded if you believe that wouldn't happen again if unions disappeared. You are just plain stupid if you think The auto industry management is blameless in their mess.

The CEOs of the big 3 were ignorant when they agreed to pay union members nearly full pay while being "layed off" for 2 years. Crazy.
And union members must be scratching their head as to why their Big 3 company is losing jobs and customers while Toyota, Honda, and others that are operating in union-free facilities are doing okay.
CEOs are typically concerned with profit, growth, and that creates jobs.
Union members scream about jobs going overseas and how unfair it is. They are partially to blame. Not totally, but partially.
a. They support a party that increases taxes on businesses. Those businesses will find methods to decrease the impact of those increased taxes.
b. Unions push for higher (and sometimes unrealistic benefits and wages) and that drives companies to close or look elsewhere.
c. Union members are often forced to perform at low "rate" versus at higher potential rates. Why? They do not want to demonstrate they can be more efficient and productive or else then EVERYONE would have to be more efficient and productive. So, the company loses out and so do the employees.
d. Unions are big business. They have no interest in the working person. Yet, the sheep (few of them, thank GOD) buy into their snake oil sales pitch. And in the end........their jobs are being shipped overseas or to less costly areas of the country.
Democrats + Unions = Disaster.
I can offer a few minor experiences with regard to "c. Union members are often forced to perform at low "rate" versus at higher potential rates."

When finishing my basement, I witnessed my cousin (an electrical contractor and union member), who was helping me, using several incredibly archaic tools. When I asked him why, he responded that the union forces them to use those types of tools -- "to prolong and milk every job as much as possible".

And at trade shows, I've personally been called out on more than one occasion for attempting to plug a computer into an electrical outlet, in paid-for show booths. Big mistake. You have to wait an hour for a 60 year-old minority union employee to trudge, at ~1 mph to your booth, stare blankly at you, slowly plug the appliance into the outlet, then trudge back to his union lounge without saying so much as a word. Just one more lesson in multi-tasking, laughing while shaking your head in disbelief and disgust.

Trivial anecdotal incidents, I know, but sometimes the little things can be enlighteningly emblematic of the entire freaking union hypocrisy.

I suspect if labor dropped the actual part of the bill that would take away people's anonymity this would get passed. If you can't choose without everyone knowing your choice/vote then that corrupts the process.

"We were outspent, outhustled and outorganized," said one chagrined union advisor who was not authorized to speak by name.
Let's not ignore the mandatory federal arbitration portion of this law. The part that states if there isn't an agreement within a certain amount of time the Feds will draw up a bind agreement for the Union and Company. Yeah, that's whats good for the country, a government that can't even deliver the mail will decide pay and benefits for industies they're not even in. They should call this the "union shill act"
