What do you think "denying" somebody something means?

Am I "denied" the right to smoke in a bar?
Am I "denied the right to buy an 18 oz soft drink in New York?
Am I "denied" the right to buy an assault rifle or conceal carry in Illinois?

Nice attempt at backpedaling.

Right, I'm not permitted to have any opinion on child-rearing because I don't happen to actually have a child myself.
Intelligence and common sense, plus being raised up myself, does not allow me any input whatsoever.
I didn't say that. B ut it also doesn't give you the same level of experience that actual child care has.

Plus, basedon the responses of PARENTS here, your "intelligence and common sense" isn't really coming into play when making judgments as to appropriate play for children.

Hey Silly Putty, read the whole sentence:

"Sure, use 'real' things when it makes sense, but don't deny technology for the sake of denying it."

You need to take a seminar on context and comprehension. Your examples are as worthless as your child-rearing skills.

You're joking, right? You are the LAST person in here to be credited, let alone mentioned in the same sentence, with intelligence and common sense. And based on your commentary in here, I would not go around bragging about your upbringing. You were failed. In your parents' defense, they obviously did not have a lot to work with.

This all began because you shared your opinion that "small children" would have difficulty navigating photos online. That fact is, that opinion is not based in reality. Forget my house. Go to my kid's PUBLIC SCHOOL kindergarten class room. They have computers. Even if my kids were not exposed to technology at home, they are from the minute they get to kindergarten. That's 5 years old. And you find me a 5 year old who does not know how to operate his mom's smart phone and I'll show you a mom who does not have a smart phone.

This is not the same world you grew up in playing with your etch-a-sketch. Kids arecapable of a lot more than you think. You'd know that if you were around them as much as a parent.

It's just how things are. My parents grew up with out a TV in their home. I grew up with a TV in my home. I'm sure there were many people who thought TV for kids was a bad idea and would rot our brains.

My mom exclaims about how many toys the kid has ... and then gives him more.

Heck, he got a telescope and books from us for Christmas. Because seriously, there's almost nothing out there anymore that he wants and doesn't have, and we haven't given most of it to him.

This.

It's always kind of sad when the past ceases to be the present, but time marches on, and kids adapt to whatever world they are born into.

I was watching the Monkees (don't judge!) over the weekend and I was lamenting how things have changed so much and how I miss pay phones. Right? LOL I would never give up my smart phone for a pay phone, but there's a certain wistfulness for times gone by.

Unfortunately the dog is still stuck in 1990.

Yeah, I forgot that nowadays, not only are five year olds hyperbolic, rambunctious sex machines, they are also proficient in navigating online porn sites, let alone what else.

Ahh, progress...

I have about 15 tapes of them, so if I judge, it's in a good way!!! I've seen them several times in concert and met Mickey and Davey before! I also have a keychain on my keys and several t-shirts!:D

I DVR them every Sat and Sun even though I've seen every single episode like a million times. Then when I'm all alone I watch them...and sing along with them.:D

Last year, after the passing of David Jones, I charted "Daydream Believer" and performed it with my band a few times in his honor. People *love* it.

Actually, the story goes that he didn't like "Davy" and preferred "David." Not having known him personally, I couldn't vouch for the veracity of the story, but I've seen it a few times over the years, so... <shrug>

I was a lot more upset with his death than I thought I would be. One of the last ties to my childhood I guess. Also, I always thought Peter would go first. I don't really know why, just did. <shrug>
