I have never had a problem with Aldi. They have good products and the stores I go to are far South Side and Southwest Side Stores which are very clean and well managed.
I agree with you Rich. I've never had a problem with Aldi or their products. If you are willing to forgo the frills of other stores like bagging your own groceries and returning your shopping cart you can save a lot of money and still get quality food and staples.

LOL, Aldi employees are out in force now. Took them long enough.

I got sick from Aldi and so have many of my friends. They don't sell any name brand stuff and they sell food past the expiration date. I would shop at Walmart 10 times over before going back to Aldi.

<quoted text>I can't address the smell complaint, but you are right on point saying they don't carry name brands. That is their business model. They (and TJ's) stock house brands only because that way they control the manufacturing process and therefore control costs.
Dominicks sells house brands as does Jewel and Whole Foods in addition to name brand items. There is a very thin profit margin in grocery stores. The ability to control costs is more important than for a business like, say,Radio Shack or Home Depot
Is the ability to control costs more important selling decent food?
First time I shopped at Aldi I got the runs. The second time I got food poisoning. There was no third time. I don't know anything about Trader Joe's, but don't know why people are saying Aldi is good just because of them. Times change. There are a lot of "reputable" companies that have turned downright crooked all for the sake of the bottom line, including almost every insurance company. I won't mention names, but bigger is NOT better.

I don't know what we would do without Aldi Foods. I'm a failed SEO and live with my boyfriend who doesn't have a job either. The money we panhandle goes a lot further at Aldi than any other store. And the quality and freshness is top notch. You must be shopping in the Aldi dumpsters if you get sick. Or you have a mold problem. All my friends from Pasadena love Aldi too. The PT, Kelly, the gang at city hall... Maybe you should call CUACC. Ask for Ron. Could you recommend a good OBgyn? My friend Elmhurst Sue is looking for one. Something about fungus. I don't need one, I'm a guy. I hope Illinois legalizes gay marriage. I want to marry Frank. Isn't Obama great? I love Obamacare! Long live Barack and Aldi!!!

One of teh parts of a free market economy is that you stay in business as long as you have a product people will buy at a price they can afford and which allows you to make a profit.

Aldi's does not target the Whole Foods crowd, probably not the Jewel/Dominick's crowd either. Some people need to buy cheaper.

I have no doubt you got teh runs and food poisoning, but if that was an indicator of what Aldi's sells they would not get repeat customers.

Clearly it is not a store or a business model that you want, but there are segments of US society who have fewer options. That is who Aldi's aims at.

Check out some neutral business websites like Bloomberg or even Fox business for articles on the profit margin of grocery stores. It is real small. If a store doesn't make a profit, they don't stay open. If you want a subsidized food store that doesn't need to worry about profit margins, well that exists but not in the US type economy.

I shop Aldi & think the prices are great. My store & the ones in my area are quite well run & clean. If you are getting sick it's due to the factory farms that raise livestock now adays as well as the genetic modified crops that the Feds permit to be grown. Don't blame Aldis because the quality of America's food supply is terrible.

Why don't you and I meet in person. I'll buy you a drink. And, it won't be from Aldi. That place makes me sick. Why does Topix back every low life sleazy corporation on the planet?

Small profit margin? Most groceries like other businesses are owned by huge corporations who are making record profits now.

What's with all the POP up ads on Topix now? Meanwhile, I wouldn't shop at Aldi if they gave away their food.

Everybody I know shops at Aldi. You'd have to be a fool to go anywhere else. Low prices, quality products and the best service. It looks like a couple of disgruntled former employees are taking it out on Aldi because they can't keep a job. It's the same old moldy story. I'm sure my famous uncle who was Al Capone's lawyer would shop at Aldi if he were still here, rest his soul. Try Aldi, you'll love it!!

So do you think that homophobic posts like this will help Aldi? We all know about the junk they try to peddle for food there. Now we know too that the people running Aldi are also gay hating pricks. So is Trader Joe's owned by Germans or owned by German Nazi's? That's a good question now.

Next time which will be soon, I'll just stop by and say hello. I have a gift for you, I know you'll really like. Until then sweet dreams dearest.
