<quoted text>Never. I've taken over Thanksgiving, but i don't live in her town. If she wants to stop her xmas brunch and drive 4 hours to my house, I am more than happy to do xmas at my house, but the 50-100 people that go to her yearly shindig are on their own. I don't see much more than my sister being willing to make that drive for xmas anyway.
So do your parents and sister join you for Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday and spend the night b/c of the long drive?

I wanna know why Tonka isn't giving me shit about the Gator game. I got some from one of our FSU fans at work, but I had to give him props: he decorated all the Gator fans' office doors with FSU-colored signs that read "dadgummit" (Bobby Bowden's infamous exclamation). It summed up my feelings so I left it up all day.

LW2: Where I grew up, homecoming was for losers. I mean, there were maybe 50 people at the dance - I went as a cluesless Freshman(there were like 7,000 - 8,000 kids, literally in my HS). People wore jeans and it was a big "whatever". I was shocked that it was so much bigger in the Midwest when I met some people out there. Really? HOMECOMING? A football game and a parade? So not cool. Get over it - there are better things to do. Worry about prom. Well, even that's kinda lame.

I had dirty dishes from Christmas until New Years last year ... because I'm lazy and was trying to run them all through the dishwasher.

When mom says she's tired and doesn't want to do it anymore.
This is why I host Christmas Day now.
the summer after i got married, my grandfather died. he is the one who insisted that "the kids come home for the holidays". well, hte kids not only came home, but also brought the food, cooked the food, set the table and cleaned up afterwards. the kids were tired of it. we all were kind of foundering that first year after grampa died.

and i was a newlywed who lost my mind and offered to host in the smallest home in the family.

but it stuck. and the new tradition was made. the hosting responsibility skipped a generation on my mom's side, and gave my SIL a b-day gift that she appreciates every year - we take my MIL and her husband off my SIL's hands.

i've been lucky... my brother tires of the chit-chat at that point and takes over. i'm tired and don't mind sitting a little longer. they're not coming back home for thanksgiving this year, so i'll actually have to do the damn dishes and load the dishwasher.

adn chase the other SIL out of the kitchen. it's her b-day weekend, so i want her to take it easy!

What?! 50-100 people? That's crazy, I don't blame you! Obviously, she must really love doing it.

Its an all day revolving door. She prepares ahead of time, but gets up early to start getting the food ready. Takes a break to open presents, then its back to food. Got a couple buffet tables full of food. People start showing up at around 11am and the place does not clear out till 5 or 6 pm. Dining room, tv room, kitchen, living room, patio, back yard. People everywhere.

I dated a guy whose parents did a HUGE thanksgiving dinner for all and sundry. Tables all over their huge house. It was a BLAST.

That would be fun if you weren't the one preparing it.

Eh.
The list of attendess falls into 1 of 4 groups.

-people that I would like to see
-people that I don't mind seeing but don't really care if I see them
-people I don't know
-people that annoy me and I don't care to see them but have to put up with them for an afternoon
