Skokie teen held in North Side slaying

An 18-year-old Skokie man was held without bail Monday on charges that he killed one man and shot a fleeing woman in what prosecutors said was a drug deal gone bad.

Cook County prosecutors told a judge that Christopher Tran shot and killed Thomas Andrewski, 47, in his apartment in the 1700 block of North Maplewood Avenue Thursday is also alleged to have shot a 42-year-old woman who was in the apartment.

Tran entered the North Side apartment at around 5:30 p.m. to negotiate the purchase of narcotics from Andrewski, said Assistant State's Atty Patrick Keane. During the transaction, Tran brandished a revolver and fired a shot into the air, Keane said. Read more

I was very close to chris and knew that he wasnt a bad person, but the desicsions he made and the people he hung with ultimatly led him into a downward sprial. This situation is horrific, and even though I personal tried to guide this youth into the right direction, he knew what was right from wrong and that is why it is such a damn shock to me.

Chris had the opportunity to make good decisions for himself but never would accept any responsibility. The fact that Chris has been arrested for a felony does not surprise me. However, I never would have thought it would be murder.

He's not a bad person. He has a good heart, he just made a mistake like everybody else does. This mistake just happened to land him in jail. He shouldn't have gone there with a gun. But he did. And the fact that he was being lunged at and there was a gun in the situation makes it life or death. It would have been Chris or the other guy. I still talk to him everyday. He calls me from jail everyday and I know exactly what happened. He was a good kid with a good heart. It was a accident.

Don't act like you know his family. HIs folks were tough, and they tried to do everything to keep him away from trouble, but I guess in the end, he found trouble and he stuck with it.

Hahaha, I know his whole family. I know his sister who's a sophomore like myself. Folks were tough my backside, he was free to roam. This wasn't a surprise, he's been a troublemaker for a while now. If he caused as much trouble as he did with my parents he would have been sent to a Military school or a Boot Camp for some Drill Sargeants to show that wannabe gangster what real toughness is. Not talking ebonics or acting ghetto, but being proper and disciplined. He would have been crying like a little girl in a boot camp and maybe he wouldn't be killing people over weed if he had been actually dealt with.
