Leave it to the dumb Polacks to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Fools that they are, it is no wonder they are the central character in so many Dumb Polack jokes.

So you're bashing the Poles for trying to get along with Mexicans? You sound like a racist hate-monger.

Oh but that's right you like racist "Polack jokes" which came from Nazi propaganda that Poles are "intellectually inferior". Yeh it figures you would like this racism considering the Anti-Polish hatred you are pushing.

The US media is absolutely NOT removing the ethnic differences and making things grey - or dare I say - assimilated.
The media (not all of it) FOCUSES on differences of ethnic groups, dare I say that certain ethnic groups are "better then others" pushing the media notion - that's why we (the media) give them so much coverage.
Why do the German-Americans, who are the largest American ethnic group and have contributed so much to America, given such a DISproportionately little amount of media attention, relative to the politically correct ethnic groups? I thought there is no such thing as some groups of people are "more equal then others".
The Germans have made a significant contribution by making beer that is superior to all others. There is nothing better than sipping a Pschorr Weiss with a lemon on a hot summer day.

Let's have Oktoberfest in Grant Park. No Jessie Jr. Budweiser water brew, just the excellent German imports.

They were celebrating Polish Constitution Day. Yesterday Chicago
held its 117th annual Constitution Day parade. It commemorates the May 3, 1791, signing of the Polish Constitution.

Will you apologize now or later?

Pete,
I see what you're saying. American culture has indeed evolved over hundreds of years.
But since we live in the present why don't we live by the American culture of today which is comprised of many groups of people as you mentioned - where I think most of them have been assimilated into America and are American first.
Having said that, I think ethnic pride in America is fine and good but only if it doesn't lead to the balkanization of America. That's the only thing I am afraid of.
Its fine to be proud of being a hyphenated American as long as the American part of the hyphenation is emphasized first.
And when it's all added up you get confusious...

Confusion is when little minds start to spin around in a big world, lost.

Confucius is when a man discovers self-cultivation and that extrapolates into unifying a state through a culture of study and high morality.

... but I still prefer a good Polish brew!

Abe, I hear what you say about the media paying more attention to certain national events at the exclusion of others. That is a function of the percentages that make up the editorial staff and reporters. When you're a small grouping its better to concentrate your efforts into the areas that count for self propogation and good leverage of the investment. Left wing more pronounced because the more nationalist orientated cotton onto wrong doings quicker, whereas the message gets somewhat diluted and confused in the left wing BS. Left wing also can be confused with giving the people what they want with giving the suckers what we can make a profit on, big time.

Divide and subdue is a tried and tested method and given copious doses of TeeeVeeee based jokes, the morons in society respond predictably. Continuous education helps, but unless there is a major enlghtenment, the morons and their offspring are doomed to eat sh!t forever.(OMG! What a doomsayer and first thing in the morning too. That's why I need breaks from this site!)

The Germans kinda lost the need for parades after the events of '39-'45. It's a shame, because parades are such a great part of American life. BUt you know what I'm like, I not a great fan of the loud and proud groups, and in all liklihood f I did live in the States them I'd give parades an' sich a miss. But you never know until you've tried it I guess. Selectivity is good.

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Scorpio

You're in a very romantic and sentimental state today. You're also feeling quite sensitive and vulnerable, so you won't want to be around anyone you find abrasive or aggressive. If you meet someone for the first time now you'll think they're wonderful and your relationship will always involve putting them on a pedestal. But don't be too idealistic. They are human, remember!
