It all comes down as well as the people but the main one the Alderman. The alderman does not worry about the neiborhood, we are not china town or the little Italy. They are very well taken care of. We have no cops patroling the area. When the police is called it takes them about 3 hrs to get to the scene. Because they have much important areas too take care of. The people could only do so much. Pilsen between coulter/ western all the way to 18/Ashland have a very high crime rate. And most of the time it is not metioned on the news. But you know something the community needs to take matters into there own hands and start doing something because cops nor the alderman are any good.

If you want to complain about the police response time, ask your alderman why there is a shortage of officers in the city. The city's claim of 13,500 is what they are budgeted for, but there are only about 9,500.
Don't believe it... bout 45 either retire, die, or get fired each month, which averages to over 480 per year. There has only been one small academy class this year of about 150, so just in 2008 there is a shortage of 330. This has been going on for years and the public needs to know about it.

Yes, the parents are to blame; however, what is the city dooing about it!!!!

As I drive home from work, I see the gangbangers on the corners selling drugs, if it's that easy for me to see them why aren't they being arrested.

Enough is enough, I'm in the neighberhood, My kids are all straight A students, and I make sure they are not outside. I help them with their homework, I spend time with them, I'm involved in their school, I promote values, I take them to Mass..... etc etc etc. I'm tryng to get out of Pilsen but I'm upside down on my mortgague (not my kids fault) and no, I do not have all kinds of expensive electronics and toys.
Chicago makes a big deal when American Dolls makes a doll that "left Pilsen because of gangs.." what about helping fix the "reality" of the problem instead of hiding under a rug and calling a company "racist" for bringing up an actual problem.
There was a nother shooting Yesterday morning at 4:00am, another teenager killed on the corner of 23rd and Oakley, where is the outrage in the news.
I'm a hinpanic who came here legally and I call for immediate deportation of all gangbangers in Pilsen. That would be a start.
Start promoting single family homes... WE NEED HELP!!!! NOW!! NOT AFTER A BULLET COMES THRU A WINDOW AND KILLS AN INNOCENT KID!!!
To the alderman,

I will be at your doorstep and will not give up until either the problems are resolved or I manage to sell my home and leave Pilsen.
I feel like a horrible parent just for leaving in a neighberhood were there is a real posibility that thru no fault of their own one of my kids may be shot!!!

You are so right, our neighborhood has gone to SH*&@!
Our Alderman does nothing and cares more about chinatown than his own people, we have met with him several times and all he does is gives us false promises. Half the time I feel sorry that the guy can't even express himself properly, I'll tell you who really is to blame; the parents, the irresponsible voters that keep puting these good for nothing politician in power to make decisions in our communities. It is not your fault for living where it is affordable to you, sounds like you are an hjonest working person that is being taxed, why aren't you getting the protection and security you deserve? I'll tell you every politician is more worried about what is going on in somewhere else rather than what is happenning right in front of them.

If we look at Pilsen community systematically and see the benefits and drawbacks for Chicago, we see a different picture. What's happening in our families..that's one system that needs much support. We see depression, alcoholism, maybe parents work and aren't home to supervise..what are the values and beliefs? So on.
Another system is the support system for the family. Who's there for the kids when ther parents aren't? Are there resources that children can access? Are they involved in sports? Can they be? Does the community provide any support? The resources are very far and few between with many folks being apathetic about the success of our families. Get involved in schools, caps, church and so on..that can help.
The political resources are also another system that has an impact. Our Alderman isn't just apathetic, where's his commitment as a public servant? Or is he lining his pockets with kick-backs and deals and so on. Seems like he's benefitting only his own. Shame on him because he could be providing resources like scholarships, initiatives...and so on. Has he ever gone to ANY social service agency and listened to their needs...NOPE.
Another system and resource includes schools, churches..so on.
Get the picture. Like Hilary once said, "it takes a village" but what's happening in our village is very frightening. Anyone who thinks that Podmajersky is the only bad thing that's happening to Pilsen is wrong. All person with political power including people with authoritative power that limit their scope to only their benefit is guilty of each and every bit of harm the children receive. How can we expect the youth in our neighborhood to succeed when we have failed them. We have no luxury to point fingers we only have the task at hand and it MUST get done. Lives depend on it.

You or the Alderman even the police will never stop gangs in pilsen. Pilsen is a Mexican community and where ever theres Mexicans theres gangs. If you arrest one member one more will sprout out. The people run these streets not the police. IF you attempt to call the police on some gang members you can best believe that your windows will be busted by the end of the night. Speaking as a ex member we run these streets night and day. We patrol these streets more than the police do. WE are the law. Innocent people in the nieghborhood can either work with us or suffer the consequences. So you best believe for a couple grand your head will be blown off by a little kid with a 357. But im not hard headed! It does have to do with the parents. MY father was gang member so i followed his foot steps my uncles are members so my cousins their sons followed it too. As you can see the apple doesnt fall far from the tree. Plain and simple there is no solution just tell your kids to stay away if they chose not to then take a look at the parents. And fuck the police there good for nothing!! Ive lost family to this life style and they didnt have anything to do with gangs I know innocent people die but hey i went through it so suck it up white boys. BROWN POWER RUNS THESE CHICAGO STREETS PILSEN AND LIL VILLAGE WILL ALWAYS BE RUN BY GANGS SO DEAL WITH IT AND STOP CRYING LIKE BITCHES.

This issue is not on the politicians only! Its on the community as well! People don't get involve to assist with information. They turn their back on their neighbor when the neighbor is getting robbed. Parents need to get involved with their kids in activities.

as I read all the coments on this page I sit here and wonder it there is a real solution.Maybe it is the alderman...it might be the parents faults... or it may be it society{the environment one lives in} growing up you have to defend yourself. I grow up on 19th n hoyne. I lived there for 23 yrs. I had the opportunity to finally moved out and never been happier. The street can be cleaned up it just takes time and effort. people have to speak up and tell those thugs how they feel about them hanging in front to their houses. People don't necessarily call the cops all he time just speak up. "Shut mouth dont get fed". speak up let other people know they could speak up with you. another idea is stand in front of the alderman's door and protest. let you demand be heard. He can not deny the people the pertection try already pay for .Ya thats right we pay those police to protect and serve. Police what the fuck protect and serve where the people need you.Dont sit on western and cermak enjoying your fuckin coffee and donut. get the fuck off your asses and do somehing.

I say this okay since I can't used profanity (F****) all the polictians including the alderman and the (F***) mayor as well. I say also, we should take the law in our own hands and blow all these (F*****) gangbangers away and the neighborhood will be nice again

Daley get it together, Im glad you will not run for re-election, huh check that 50% of the city's issues just got fixed already...

18th, and Laflin,
Hmm, Nuevo Leon, great Carne Asada.

I know the area, know it all too well. 23rd and Oakley. Hmm, that was once an Italian Neighborhood. But as the Gringos mass exodus' out of that shithole known as Chicongo, the roaches fill the voids.

They slowly crept in, it took maybe 40 or more years, but the plan succeeded. Now there's nothing left to that shithole, and everybody points fingers, but everyone's afraid to look in the mirror.

Know Taylor St? That's where I lived. On just about a daily basis, you followers of satan would tag my garage, with "LK", "DK", "Jose", and all the other infantile shit.

Why, Your own parents sold you dummies down the river, and you thought it was too dumb to get an education, it was there for the taking, but you didn't want it.

In the meantime, Asians, Indians, Pakistanis went to school, opened their own businesses, became highly educated doctors, businessmen and women because they knew that by punching a time clock, no one gets ahead in this cesspool now known as Amedica.

All the while, yous assholes are standing on the corner, like you're waiting for the second coming of Christ, like money is going to fall from the sky, and you ship is coming in.

Dream on. Life is what you make of it. You get out, with what you put in. And that's true with anything in life.

Sit on your ass, with a can of Tecate in one hand, and a blunt in the other, and guess what. No Dinero is coming in.

Get off your ass, find a job, and make something of yourselves.

Or be a follower, and be like the rest. Either in the Shithouse, or in the Morque. Your choice.

This "La Familia" you speak of? What have they done for you?

Helped you once because you were just a little pussy, got your ass kicked by Juan, or Flaco, and now they came to help, and retaliated for you, and fought your battles?

Have they ever gotten you a real job? Gotten you a paid vacation, and you hopped a plane somewhere?

Have they secured you a paid pension when you retire? Or don;t you plan on being around that long? Go out like James Dean? Sorry, you ain;t Hollywood, just ignorant, and can't see the writing on the wall.

Will they pay your doctor bills?, your parents? Pay your rent, your insurance, your car note? Pay for your groceries, and your families?

You people have never developed any shred of a brain. Nada, not a damn thing.

You've cheated yourselves! Out of a good human life. Step back, and really think about it!?

You here people rather shoot then fight. Bottom line, you are a Bitch. You see alot of cpd abuse there power appointed to them by the people. Why are we paying a cpd to have our children arrested just because they fit the discription. It's survive of the fitest in these streets and alot of teens growing up in the streets of chicago, don't get to see 20. Its a said issue but no one ever looks at the big picture. We have a system where all they care is the amount of arrest they have made to get in order to qualify for state money. What better way then to arrest any person " just cause" or because they "fit the description" just to meet that quote. Then you have officers that got punked out all there lifes and gets a chance to take it out on the Chicago residents. You must not forget all the police officers that have connections with gangs, either a old former member or have gang members in their family and hide that from the people. The chicago police are a gang them selves and we, us, the people pay taxes to pay these corrupted officers. As far as our teens, would people agree that if you get pushed to a point, you are bound to snap at any moment. Alot of residents get falsely arrested for crimes they never committed and all because the department needs to meet a quote. After so many false arrest, people tend to commit a crime on purpose. There's alot of but"s or if"s and bottom line, this is bullshit. The mayor rather close the schools for our kids and propose a plan to spend a million dollars on the water front in down town. Yeah, more jobs, but for who? Jobs for the wealthy, that's who! And that's fucked up. Kids/ teens being targeted as future state money to be spent, just because you might possibly fit the description or just cause category.
