More violent crimes being committed means cops need to start spending more time going after seat belt violators!

What a joke...there is Mr. mayor crying poor again.
Where is all this money going? its unbelievable, how can the city of Chicago be broke?
There only seems to be money around when he thinks something is important (olympics, relocating the kids museum etc.) and then he has the nerve to tell the bars around Wrigley to stop selling beer after the 7th inning? thoes establishments pay a yearly liquor license, Daley thinks there will be a problem, when has there ever been a problem in Wrigyville? never! thats when. i think he is more concerned that he does not have enough cops on the street for crowd control (remember the taste?) and maybe the bars should agree to his foolish demand but only if the city gives them a pass on next years liquor license to make up for the money they will loose...... but wait i forgot, the city cant do that they dont have any money

what BS. The Police Department only has about 9,000 officers. The department is supposed to have exactly 13,000. The FOP is helping the city downplay the problem by saying its only 400 short by the end of this year.

You already cannot get any help from the police when you need it, so I don't see how less officers will make a difference in the already poor response record.

they can't hire enough police to patrol the streets now, but want the Olympics to come here? that will be an interesting conversation witht eh Olympic committee trying in vain to explain to them how he plans to make sure the olympians are safe to compete when the streets aren't safe for the average citizen. Can I sit in on that meeting? PLEASE????
just wondering

You don't see anywhere as many police as you did just a few years ago. we used to have a cop that would walk up and down the buisness district where I worked and handle the parking and gangbangers now you have to call and wait 30-45mins.

Of course Daly wouldn't THINK of cutting back on his ridiculous pet projects "anything to get the Olympics" in order to find the money to hire police. He cares less for the people than for the parks. Time to retire to Florida.

I'm enlisting evey Chicagoan I can to join me in writing to the Olympic committee and begging them NOT to bring the Olympics here...it will be nothing but a financial disaster for the people of Chicago and an ego stroke for a Mayor who doesn't deserve it.

The mayor needs to get on the ball. The crime in Chicago is only going to go up before you know it its going to be over his head. Every ady I check the for the police exam date and it is never posted what the hell.

Same here. I am waiting two years already for next exam date announcment, but no luck. However, even if we will take an exam, we will wait approx.6-8 months for results and the whole process takes 2-3 years. Supposly, they looking for a diversity between all recruits but personally i dont give a f**k if black, white or latino will have my back on duty.Assholes in city hall should be happy that even if cpd is a dangerous and low pay job there are still some people willing to do it.

Your background investigator probably has been transferred somewhere else and is probably no longer with Personnel Investigations. Your file is buried somewhere. If you call, they will tell you that no news is good news. I would go pay them a visit and ask them to see your file in person and I bet you they will not be able to find it except your info on their computer system. The Illinois State Police will be hiring this year. Over 500 troopers will be retiring in the next two to three years. Why would you want to live in the city of Chicago and risk your law enforcement career by pi$$ing one of Daley`s friends and be black listed and transferred to the Calumet Police District or the 15th Police District. Daley thinks he owns the police department.

What is this city thinking with this understaffed police dept. We are supposed to have the 2nd largest police department in the U.S. at 13,000 officers 4,000 more than the LAPD. But in all reality, their are 9,000 CPD officers out there in a city that had 509 homicides in 2008. New York and L.A. hire up to 6 times a year! By the time Chicago finally decides to hire again their will be a 17,000 applicant turn out for testing. Not to mention from the date of applying its a 2-3 year process until a candidate enters the accademy, so if the city plans to hire, hiring now would be the time. The city is completely skipping a generation of applicants. Our city hasn't hired in 3 years. Certain districts are dangerously understaffed with little back up. At least 50 officers are retiring each month, yet still no exam. This city is playing with fire when you have teens killing echother on youtube videos, handfulls of gang activity, and the far south side (need I say more). And on top of it all Daley is a joke and more full of shit sadly then most of the general public can see for some reason. He claims broke yet we magically had back up money for the olympics. He's privatized the parkling meters, where's that money. this guy can careless for the people of this city. His main concerns lays with getting his buddies city contracts and building our supposedly broke city into an amusement park. Do the right thing and hire some coppers to protect this beautiful city so they can keep it that way.
