& Niagra frozen over. Glad you point out some of the effects of AGW enhanced warm fronts that powerfully push to the North Pole region & shove cold Arctic airs to Canada, the U.S. & many other populated southern regions. Yes, as the populated regions freeze from AGW enhanced warm fronts shoving all the cold south, the NP region, itself, is warmed to as high as 16degC(29degF) over normal for the last 4-5 months.

BETWEEN 1998 and 2013, the Earth’s surface temperature rose at a rate of 0.04°C a decade, far slower than the 0.18°C increase in the 1990s. Meanwhile, emissions of carbon dioxide (which would be expected to push temperatures up) rose uninterruptedly. This pause in warming has raised doubts in the public mind about climate change. A few sceptics say flatly that global warming has stopped. Others argue that scientists’ understanding of the climate is so flawed that their judgments about it cannot be accepted with any confidence. A convincing explanation of the pause therefore matters both to a proper understanding of the climate and to the credibility of climate science—and papers published over the past few weeks do their best to provide one. Indeed, they do almost too good a job. If all were correct, the pause would now be explained twice over.

Each year, more than 300 million individuals are infected with malaria, a life-threatening blood disease caused by a parasite transmitted to humans by mosquitos. Whether malaria cases could be affected by warming climates has been a topic of debate, but now, researchers present the first evidence that the disease climbs to higher elevations during warmer years.

The study, published in the journal Science, suggests future warming climate trends may prompt an increase in malaria cases, particularly in highly populated areas of Africa and South America that are at higher elevations.

Basing their study on an analysis of records from high altitudes in Ethiopa and Colombia, ecologists from the University of Michigan (UM) and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine say the mosquitos tend to migrate back down to lower altitudes when temperatures decrease.

They say that unless disease monitoring and control efforts are improved, the number of people at risk of malaria is going to significantly increase.

My favorite quote of the day:

The last word goes to Richard Alley, who points out that however interesting the study of past climate may be, it doesn’t help us where we’re heading:

Whether temperatures have been warmer or colder in the past is largely irrelevant to the impacts of the ongoing warming. If you don’t care about humans and the other species here, global warming may not be all that important; nature has caused warmer and colder times in the past, and life survived. But, those warmer and colder times did not come when there were almost seven billion people living as we do. The best science says that if our warming becomes large, its influences on us will be primarily negative, and the temperature of the Holocene or the Cretaceous has no bearing on that. Furthermore, the existence of warmer and colder times in the past does not remove our fingerprints from the current warming, any more than the existence of natural fires would remove an arsonist’s fingerprints from a can of flammable liquid. If anything, nature has been pushing to cool the climate over the last few decades, but warming has occurred.

Can we all agree climate change "could be" a crisis instead of "will be" a crisis? At least respect the science and stop exaggerating their 32 years of nothing beyond; "could be". YOU don't get to decide and you must stop telling kids that science "believes" as much as you do.

Can you tell us what is "could be" about 10 ft of snow on the East coast or 10 feet of water in England, or temps you can fry an egg on the pavement in the Southern Hemisphere. You can call it normal weather, but rational thinking would suggest its far from normal. There is no exaggeration about that reality. Everyone expects cycles in weather patterns but not condensed into a yearly basis, which is what you are readily accepting as the new norm.

Their comfort is in trash, pollution, extinction,..

Hey, welcome back. While you were not posting, we posted from Nature.com etc. on shoreline windfarms to reduce Katrina-like hurricane winds by 40% and flooding up to 80%. Instead of building sea walls, install on Gulf shore windfarms and produce electricity and protection from hurricane damage.. and instead of that "fancy" coal plant that keeps on costing more and more.
