Note from the open letter: The "carbon pricing" is not a "carbon tax" across the board. It is applied by charging a levy to heavy consumers of carbon who then increase the price of goods (energy) to consumers. The moneys collected from the levy is then used in several ways:
— to boost government investments in clean energy via various mechanism including the clean energy fund.
— to help low income families offset the cost of the increase in cost of energy.

The carbon pricing has helped the reduction of Australia's CO2 emissions.

The MAJOR recent increase in cost of electricity in this country was due to infrastructure "improvements" done by the private sector of supply: poles, wiring, substations. While governments in the past used to amortise such cost over twenty years or more, private companies are doing it over two to five years, jacking up the prices of electricity beyond belief. The carbon pricing only increased the cost of electricity to the consumers by no more than 9 per cent — around $350 per year for average households. The cost of infrastructure increased the cost by more than 50 per cent in some cases.

Now with the clean energy fund being dismantled by the new rabid-right government, clean energy is going to be starved of funds and those moneys still being collected by the carbon pricing might go to waste in fancy new extreme rabid-right-wing policies. Idiots.

That was a letter from a very sick individual. I think he needs to seek psychiatric help. Again smoke and mirrors with the carbon tax. Politicians impose a carbon tax and tell us they are saving the planet, but then send our cheap energy to China. Tell me how that decreases CO2 emissions?

This was probably the most disturbing quote: "To the contrary, as you know, The quality of our survival is actually dependent on shutting down all our fossil fuel consumption. It's a big task to convince the average democratic punter who enjoys heaters in winters and air-con in summer, while owning a gas guzzler to go from A to B...:

My response to that...the quality of our survival has been enhanced because of fossil fuels. Before heaters and air conditioners, we had increased deaths from cold extremes, heat extremes, diseases. If you want to live without heat and air conditioning go for it, but if you are trying to change people's minds, this is the last letter I would post to try do that. Again, this person sounds like he needs to be locked up in an asylum.

I don't see any of them giving up their central air and heat, limos or oversees travel. Our great leader who claims AGW is a crisis hates the cold and cranks up the thermostat so high in the oval office you could grow orchids in there according to David Axelrod.

And don't forget how Michelle gets impatient and flies to Hawaii a separetly to start her vacation early.

btw, did anyone do a "green" analysis on Obama's last vacation home in Martha's Vineyard?

I know, I know... those aren't questions one is supposed to ask. Obama 'says' he's green, and gee... that's enough, isn't it?

He does manage a big checkbook, ya know.

oh 'kristy' when you are standing that close to hillary you have to get warm somehow, travel is the best way. on a lighter note, the carbon tax against people in austraila is being disposed of and the sun is shutting down for a while, leaving 'climate' scientists stunned. so much for global warming. their lifestyles cannot exist without constant taxpayer funding. we will soon be told of another hysteric crisis that can only be solved by taxpayers money in the form of government grants to the former 'climate scientists'. god has no mercy on our souls.

The question was asked at the ballot box in Australia.
Australia's conservative opposition swept to power Saturday, ending six years of Labor Party rule and winning over a disenchanted public by promising to end a HATED TAX ON CARBON EMISSIONS, boost a flagging economy and bring about political stability after years of Labor infighting.
.........
Hang on, I posted a bit on the Murdoch media a few weeks back & he controls 75% of the media in Australia. On the press monitors the ratio of pro government & pro climate change stories was next to zero. In other-words a massive media campaign to bring down a government and destroy a carbon tax run by ONE person. At times on a ratio of 100 to 1. It was enough for the gullible to be taken in, it doesn't mean climate change just went away.

Correct, the goldilocks zone will no longer apply to us. But with global warming going ahead full steam we can make the planet that way in a 100 years or so. I think i prefer the 1.7 billion number.

Please, the Australian politicians created an illusion. They claim the taxes are to "save the planet" and they jump up and down telling us how they are cutting CO2 emissions, but really they aren't because they are just sending the CO2 emissions to China. Again, how does that solve this "crisis" that you say is apocalyptic. If it is as dire as you all say, why are they sending coal to China? Follow the money...tax the fossil fuel industry who then pass the cost to the public, fill the government coffers and then ship those dirty emissions to China.

A message to Australia from David Suzuki pleading not to drop the carbon tax.
The whole point of this is, if the USA adopted carbon loading/trading/tax as a national policy the world would follow in a heart beat.

Not even microbes on Mars?

The Curiosity rover's failure to detect methane on Mars is a blow to theories that the planet may still host some types of life, say mission scientists.

You are correct on the exporting of emissions and the same can be said of Canada. It saved Canada and Australia from the GFC one of the few countries in the world that did not go into recession and maintained a AAA credit rating along with 5% unemployment. Yet Murdoch media painted this as a monumental failure. However, per head of population, China is a lot greener than the US and they are quickly moving their economy towards emission limits. What you don't realise that when it comes, they will be able to take the hit a lot better than the US economically, that's the saddest part of you deniers just looking at the short term.
