There is a new city website here:

http://www.mtholly.us/

The video of the interview of the City Manager makes me proud of my town! I hope this town just slows down and simmers a few years. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

As a resident of another small town I can say that Mt. Holly is extremely fortunate to have such a wonderful manager. Your town is one of the few where a manager actually cares for the citizens and has no problem telling people. Kudos to him. If you want an example of the opposite then just take a peek at Marshville, they have a manager that cant stand the citizens, cant work well with the council, berates her staff, and generally has no people skills.
I notice your mayor and council are all white, yet the manager is not. You must have a wonderful council as well, not interested in color, but skill. Must be a wonderful town to live in. If you have any advice that we can use to find a good manager then please pass it on to us. Thanks and job well done there.

We need a new city manager. It's time. The current city manager has his heels dug in and won't be going anywhere for quite a while.

Are you suggesting we need a new Mount Holly City Manager? If so, please say why you would think that. I only had reason to communicate with the City Manager once. His response was timely, intelligent, helpful, and polite. The "feeling" I get watching the video suggests he embraces town government as an element of "public service". As a taxpayer, that's exactly what I want. I'll bet if I had any legitimate concern, he would address it with all his might. And if it were more than he could do, he'd escalate it for consideration.

But hey, I don't know the guy and have limited exposure to him. What say you?

You must not have read my post. I was not "suggesting". I said we need a new city manager. I don't like our current one. He is very condecending in his tone to people as is Greg Beal. They have no feelings for long term residents of our city. Just my opinion.

Sorry. When I read your post it was unclear to me if you said we need a new Mount Holly city manager or a Marshville city manager.(You replied to a comment someone made about the Marshville city manager.)

I'll respectfully disagree with your opinion so far. I would be surprised if meeting Mr. Jackson in person gives me any reason to think he would be condescending in attitude. Some day I'll attend a City Council meeting to get some in-person experience under my belt.(Reminder to self to do this before election day!)

This is the Mount Holly forum, not Marshville. I was referring to the Mount Holly city manager, I hope that makes it a little clearer for you.

Can you please provide examples of what you mean by no feelings for long term residents of our city? I'm trying to understand why it's always people who have lived in Mt. Holly for generations always reluctant to change. It seems there is always a complaint about anything or anyone "not long term" in this town.

Don't be fooled by the lone black man. Mt. Holly is still racist. Not all the citizens are because the overall view is one of a melting pot and mixed culture which I like but I have run across quite a few racists hell bent on complaining with the guise of "it's just not the same anymore" which is sad. I feel bad for them because they're missing out on so much and isolating or limiting themselves from interacting with awesome people.

I am not going into details the situation I am talking about. I am relatively young and have lived in Mount Holly my whole live and was forced to make changes due to the city of Mount Holly. They could have cared less about decisions that affected my life. It the self centered, self serving attitudes that we have in city hall that I am referring to. I speak from the experience that I have found to be true about these people from having to get involved when personal spaces were invaded. The condescending attitude be read in the monthly water bill, do you get one?

The water bills for Stanley and Mt. Holly are ridiculous so I can agree to that. When trying to discuss them with anyone there are no answers, only excuses. But how does a water bill equate to the whole town being stigmatized.

Side note: for the people with the negative rates, how about hold an adult discussion to dispute what I said instead of hiding behind simple rates. I digress, your reviews have only proved I've spoken truth that doesn't want to be exposed. Have a nice day!

IMHO people who have grown up & old in these historic, very slow moving towns have gotten used to everything being old & repair worthy. Note people moving in are moving to the new homes. Historic(old) places, including hotels, are wonderful to visit but not to stay in. There in no enjoyment in stained carpets, peeling wallpaper & noisy airconditioners.

Thank you for providing an honest, civil answer.

"IMHO": WHY did they move here then??
Maybe the people moving in should go back where they came from if they don't like what is here. These "old" & "repair worthy" places are places that our families and loved ones have worked hard to get for generations and we don't appreciate them being considered sub-standard just because we like living in OUR "slow moving" town. If you don't like it here in OUR town, move your happy ass back where you came from and take your snobby nose attitudes with you. We don't need or want you here and we will not change our minds just because you think your way is the only right way. And YES, we have "gotten used to" what is here because we worked hard for it. Only the greedy, money hungry new comers, and government welcome you with that attitude.
