What is the best little town in North...

okay, just to start things out, I happen to live in a place that is just as "southern" as it gets: south Alabama. I know this is ridiculous of me to write to a post that is so old, but I just couldn't stop myself. I am absolutely horrified to see such animosity between fellow Americans. I may have been born and raised in the south, but half of my family is from the north. I cannot stand it when people try to stereotype others just for the way they live. For example, I do not listen to country music, I do not square dance, I do not get waved at by everyone in my small town, not everyone here drives a pickup truck, I do not have an accent, and there are plenty of people here who could use a makeover. To "stay there", you are doing a poor job of being an American. It does not matter if you live in the south or the north. The civil war was years ago. The fact that people would still be fighting about such trivial matters even today shocks me. I personally do not believe in calling someone a "yankee" or a "hick". We are all Americans living in the same country. Yes, our cultures and beliefs may differ, but our origins are still the same. I cannot believe that some people would hold a grudge that our ancestors fought years ago to be rid of. We are not living in the 1800's. We all traverse the same soil, speak the same language, and serve the same God. I am only 16 years old and even I am perfectly aware of this. Call me naive, but I'm pretty sure that I know who the ignorant ones on this forum are. Good God! Where is America going these days!?

you know, I was born and raised in the south.. snow camp, nc. and this is really sad that you bunch are going at each other like this.. you don't even know one another.. this is not how we were raised in the south! why would we want anyone to think we are so cruel and obnoxious?! We are supposed to be kind and generous.. its the way the south is! Help your neighbor, love them, even if they are a pain in your butt they are still your neighbor and you are there! At some point we have to stand with the north.. even if we will never see eye to eye with them.. we have to stand together if we are ever going to get our country back from where it is now.. you know, I was raised as southern as it gets.. my mama taught me to act like a lady and my daddy taught me to shoot a gun and hunt and fish. I know my place, and I know as a young lady that I am blessed to be right where I am. my roots are permanently in the south, on our family farm and it will always be that way. I don't have anything against someone coming to live here as long as they don't try to change our lifestyles..

Unfortunately you've shown your ignorance by your smart a-- reply, another example of how people on the left will shout you down and call you names if you say anything they disagree with, case in point here!

Crel and obnoxious people comin l walks of life. A man at Panther stadium told me to STFU just this past Sunday. I followed him to the restroom and punched him in the face. Now, he knows how to act like he has respect for others.

Funny how one tries to find suggestions on a nice place in NC to move, and instead of suggestions, people actually degrade and trash talk. I love it. Just can't wait to move to your wonderful state. Hopefully I won't be disappointed when I get their as a Russian born agnostic from So Cal, with my Cali accent! Maybe busy people from busy cities like New York, Chicago, or LA don't wave or say "How's your day going?" to everyone they pass by since they're probably busy and also because there are millions in our cities, or they come off rude because jobs are scarce and cost of living is at least double or triple to mostly all the Southern states, so the people are just too busy and have too much problems on their mind to stop and chat about the day with every single origiperson. But just remember, smiling and acting friendly to one's face and then going and gossiping or trash talking about that same person to your friends isn't the same as genuinely being nice. At least the so-called rude jerks of the big cities don't pretend to not be. They'll tell you to your face, and not behind your backs. Just food for thought for some of you closed minded southerners who consider yourself better than the rest of us. Now back to the topic. Anyone from NC who isn't a prick, please suggest some friendly, peaceful, small middle class towns to live in within a 30 mile radius of Charlotte! Thank you in advanced:-)

<quoted text> Southern belle's are polite, look beautiful, smile at everyone, will talk to anyone, have class, sit with their legs closed, don't curse in public, don't roll their eyes, don't make smart ass remarks, know how to dress and do their hair, raise polite children, keep a clean house, try to set examples for their children, never honk and give the finger to other drivers, and always make you feel right at home...ahhh it's good to know that I'm around nice people.
So my family and I are considering moving down there as we are tired of the cold..... My parents are moving down and as I'm finishing my education masters at near the same time I'm "following" them down. My family on my dad's south is from the Virginia and North Carolina area... but I was born in Michigan and raised in Ohio... I say yes ma'am/sir, thank you, please and your welcome. I have never raised my middle finger to a soul. I occasionally make smart arse remarks but only with friends and those who know me...and well so on and so on. I'm sorry you've seem to run into the bad crowd of northerners but perhaps you shouldn't judge everyone you meet but their accent and their previous address. I have an accent from speech therapy as a kid (it is common when one has hearing issues as a child to do such....and common for that child to develop a slight accent from it...) so I'm even asked where I'm from in my own state (Ohio, which technically is its own mix of culture in it..northern parts of the south, midwest and eastern cultures)... However, that doesn't make me impolite or any of the other things you have said. I wish you well kind sir (I'm supposing?) and hope that you give those a chance... because I was taught by my daddy and momma from the bible to treat others as you'd like to be treated.(Perhaps, kind sir, this may help you, in the future, in your interactions with us northerners.... I'm not saying there aren't bad eggs....but this country is full of good people...and no they aren't all condensed in to a few states south of the mason-dixon line. Remember some of us northerners were raised by some of you southerners....people dooooo cross the line occasionally.:) God Bless... and excuse me if anything sounded snarky, I truly do wish you well.

oooh and sorry really should have grammar and word check the above..... my family on my dad's Side.... not south (though that's where I was leading) and by their accent not but. I'm sure there's others.... and I'm sorry, but as you said in one of your earlier posts this is an online post.... grammar/spell checks aren't always necessarily done as they probably should be. I assure you I'm a well educated person.

PLEASE don't judge us by folks who bring up the civil war (known as the "War Between the States" below the Mason Dixon line). I grew up in Charlotte and now live in Boston. We welcome you and your family down south. You'll love it down south, except for the oppressive humidity in the summer :) Where are you moving to?
You have already turned into a yankee.

I grew up in Concord, which is North of Charlotte. In the summer we used to go to Lake Norman. The Lake Norman area is beautiful and there is a lot to do. If you don't like that area Morrisville and Cary are really nice areas in NC. Cary is rather away from Charlotte, but boasts some of the best public schools and is a great place to live.

I moved down here a couple of years ago and fell in love with Waxhaw, NC. It's a quiet town that treats it's residents and vistors special. The train that runs through the middle of town gives it a old town feel.

We are looking for a smaller town ( less than 10,000 people) with friendly folks.
Any suggestions?

Wow. A friend told me about this site and all I can say is wow. I guess that is the "southern charm" I hear about. I have several friends that had moved to the Charlotte NC area a few years ago and have come back, and the stories are like the twilight zone. From what I read on here they are right. They said they HAD to get back to civilization and reality & now I see what they mean. They said the employers treat employee's like crap, the pay scale is terrible, people are slow and behind the times and worse of all racial attitudes are wide open. Wow. Timmy seems to prove it. I really am shocked. Moving there just to get away from snow for 3-4 month's isn't worth it. I'm NOT impressed. Wow. Good luck to you Timmy. Wow.

Timmy_ is harmless, he does not believe half of what he says. Actually, he's a nice guy. He just does want to admit that the South, like all regions hve their problems. And, the answer is not to ask people to go back home.

From what I read on here, I believe everything I have heard. I knew the south was slow but never realized it was actually pre-historic.
