"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies.

Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, "the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

My father was the poorest white man this side of the Mississippi with five children. Through blood sweat and tears he wore that cape. He has been past away for five years now and as far as I'm concerned he still wears it like no other.
Guess I should've said having money makes wearing that cape easier.

Let me cut to the chase: I quit. I am resigning my position as a teacher in the
state of North Carolina—permanently. I am quitting without notice (taking
advantage of the “at will” employment policies of this state). I am quitting
without remorse and without second thoughts. I quit.
Why?
Because…
I refuse to be led by a top-down hierarchy that is completely detached from the
classrooms for which it is supposed to be responsible.
I will not spend another day under the expectations that I prepare every student
for the increasing numbers of meaningless tests.
I refuse to be an unpaid administrator of field tests that take advantage of
children for the sake of profit.
I will not spend another day wishing I had some time to plan my fantastic
lessons because administration comes up with new and inventive ways to steal
that time, under the guise of PLC meetings or whatever. I’ve seen successful PLC
development. It doesn’t look like this.
I will not spend another day wondering what menial, administrative task I will
hear that I forgot to do next. I’m far enough behind in my own work.
I will not spend another day wondering how I can have classes that are full
inclusion, and where 50% of my students have IEPs, yet I’m given no support.
I will not spend another day in a district where my coworkers are both on
autopilot and in survival mode. Misery loves company, but I will not be that
company.
I refuse to subject students to every ridiculous standardized test that the
state and/or district thinks is important. I refuse to have my higher-level and
deep thinking lessons disrupted by meaningless assessments (like the EXPLORE
test) that do little more than increase stress among children and teachers, and
attempt to guide young adolescents into narrow choices.
I totally object and refuse to have my performance as an educator rely on
“Standard 6.” It is unfair, biased, and does not reflect anything about the
teaching practices of proven educators.
I refuse to hear again that it’s more important that I serve as a test
administrator than a leader of my peers.
I refuse to watch my students being treated like prisoners. There are other
ways. It’s a shame that we don’t have the vision to seek out those alternatives.
I refuse to watch my coworkers being treated like untrustworthy slackers through
the overbearing policies of this state, although they are the hardest working
and most overloaded people I know.
I refuse to watch my family struggle financially as I work in a job to which I
have invested 6 long years of my life in preparation. I have a graduate degree
and a track record of strong success, yet I’m paid less than many two-year
degree holders. And forget benefits—they are effectively nonexistent for
teachers in North Carolina.
I refuse to watch my district’s leadership tell us about the bad news and
horrific changes coming towards us, then watch them shrug incompetently, and
then tell us to work harder.
I refuse to listen to our highly regarded superintendent telling us that the
charter school movement is at our doorstep (with a soon-to-be-elected governor
in full support) and tell us not to worry about it, because we are applying for
a grant from Race to the Top. There is no consistency here; there is no
leadership here.
I refuse to watch my students slouch under the weight of a system that expects
them to perform well on EOG tests, which do not measure their abilities other
than memorization and application and therefore do not measure their readiness
for the next grade level—much less life, career, or college.
I’m tired of watching my students produce amazing things, which show their true
understanding of 21st century skills, only to see their looks of disappointment
when they don’t meet the arbitrary expectations of low-level state and district
tests that do not assess their skills.

israelnationalnews.com They call him Cool Barry and No Drama Obama, but President Barack Obama appears to be losing his nerve in the final fortnight of the race for his second term.
Obama is quoted in an interview for Rolling Stone using the expression "bull****ter" regarding his opponent, Mitt Romney.
In the interview, presidential historian Douglas Brinkley recorded a conversation between Obama and Eric Bates, the executive editor of Rolling Stone. Bates told Obama that he had asked his six-year-old daughter if she had a message for the president, and she said: "Tell him: you can do it."
Obama then replied with a grin: "You know, kids have good instincts. They look at the other guy and say,'Well, that's a bull****ter, I can tell'.
Asked to explain Obama's remark, spokesman Dan Pfeiffer told reporters that he hadn't seen the article. However, he went on to say: "Trust is a very important part of the election. The president is someone who says what he means and does what he says, and Governor Romney's answers in the debates on domestic issues and foreign policy raise real questions about that."
Civility in any presidential contest is expected, but it is probably more important in this one, because of the race factor. Uncivil language by Romney toward Obama would probably immediately be viewed as a evidence of racism, but by the same token, uncivil language by Obama could cause resentment among white supporters, and also play into the hands of people who oppose him for the wrong reasons.
Did you see democrats accuse Mitt of racism when he accused Obama of lying the many times he did so in the debates? Nope. So your post is clearly bullshit.
In case you did not know what bullshit actually means, it indicates one is lying.

Sununu has made more than one racist remark in his time. Bacon has made more than one racist comment in her time.

Not sure why you assume Obama is losing his nerve just because he used a derogatory word to describe Mitt the liar. Maybe he should have called him a ballerina. That way he could say it was not said in a derogatory way, as ballerina's are nice.Bacon logic.

Also said they were told some areas may be without power til Thanksgiving so pack heavy!
Guess those areas will have to resort to pen and paper. Without electricity,(computers), to check the validity of voters, should voter ID be required?

Senator Obama was apparently the only member of congress trying to get something done to stop the borrow and spend policiies .

Since congress is the only entity which can affect budget changes, what is your point?

Mike, do you think this "abuse" of the system only happens in California?
http://www.calwatchdog.com/2011/07/05/welfare...
I noticed you nor the bleeding hearts on here didn't respond to this article. Could it be, this type of abuse happens by more than only "some"? You get on here and whine about how the children suffer if entitlements benefits are cut. Do children really need liquor from the liquor store, cigarettes, the need to gamble and go on cruises? This was only in ONE state, what about the other 49 states? Think about how much money is pissed away on abuse by "some" in the system if you would add abuse by the other 49 states.
I have no idea what you wish me to see in this article. Clearly you lack the ability to articulate a point.

I guess I will have to ask and answer the questions, seeing as how you cannot even ask a reasonable question.

Is their fraud? Absolutely, and I have never denied this. So what are you arguing? Make a point please.

Is fraud increasing? I cannot say, can you?

Should we stop the programs that have fraud? No. If we did, likely every program ever conceived would have to be stopped.

Can we put in place rules to slow abuse? I am sure we can and we have. Clinton did so. I do not live in California, and cannot vote for those who make rules in California. Looks like they are trying to police fraud. Again, what is your point?

Is the fraud in welfare costing us so much, it is hurting America? I doubt it. Can you show a number that proves your point?

As in Iraq, adding to it(surge)worked to help end the war. So Obama learned from the history of success and used that knowledge in application to Afghanistan.

I know republicans are poor at learning from history, so I understand your confusion.

I long for the day when republicans will learn from history, that injecting religion into government is bad and has many negative effects.
At least our founding fathers understood this fact.

Feel free to read the post between TSF and I last night where I pointed out Bush's record and Obama's on war. I posted a site showing such. Obama was against the war in Iraq but then sent more troops to Afghanistan. So, I guess he was against war before he was for it. Sorry, if these facts are over your head.

TSF, I don't what your occupation is, therefore I can't speak to what you see that's wrong or right about your occupation. I don't piss and moan because of horse shit fed to my by beckerheads, I worked and saw it first hand for quite a few years. I would give you one month working at a DSS to see how your money is pissed away and then you may have a somewhat different perspective about entitlements. I can't speak to the extremely wealthy, how they make their money, invest their money or what they do with it, but at least they're working and paying for their lifestyle. They don't make the tax laws, so why go off on people that are using the laws provided by the government? Abuse of welfare is not legal, unfortunately for your argument, tax loopholes are. I have a question to ask you, is making the rich pay more in taxes going to make abuse of entitlement programs change? TSF, I guess you read the article I posted, this is the mindset of people living off somebody else's dollar, do you find this ok? Two wrongs don't make a right. Have you ever thought the rich, per you, that don't pay enough taxes may actually have businesses that would employ those on welfare and help them? Would you not agree both the taxation of the rich which you have a problem with and the abuse of welfare I have a problem with both need an overhaul?
Bush had four years of a republican majority. He did not overhaul it then. Why not? Clinton did when he was in.
Get your own team to do what you want first, then bitch about our team. Maybe you should vote libertarian. Seems your team is not even doing what you want.
