"As a regular reader of the "Economist" I can confirm that this table (for the 2000 election) was indeed published in the 'Economist". However, a few issues later on, the 'Economist' published a retraction, saying the data was unable to be verified and possibly a hoax."

Im from the midwest. I now live in TN. I think the south is a pretty good place to live. I actually hate northerners and midwesterners myself. They are rude and obnoxious. I will never go back to that "cold place". People are people anywhere you go.

I just stumbled across this thread and I am dumbfounded. What is wrong with people? Is it so bad to be different and accept the differences that the various cultures within the United States has? I am from both the north and the south. I speak with a southern dialect and I am bluntly honest like the northerns. I have been ridicouled for both according to what group I am around. I would rather have someone be bluntly honest with me and tell me plainly what they mean rather than sugar coating it. I like to hear the different dialects. I like to hear the different ways of thinking, sayings, different ways of doing things, etc. that are displayed throughout the United States. It would be boring if everyone was the same, thought the same, acted the same, and talked the same. Why put someone down for being an individual when that is what makes them special? The one thing I have learned from my travels is that it is best to agree to disagree. I may not agree with every difference that another culture and I may have but I can appreciate their difference. We have so much to learn from one another to be wasting our time arguing over which culture is best.

Yea your correct Southerners speak a form of English that closely resembles what our ancesters from England spoke. Yankees on the other hand speak a language that barely even sounds like english
