impressive facility....but where do the other schools in this county find the monies to renovate or perhaps repair, indeed to maintain, the aging schools on all levels. SCHS was paid with appropriated bond funds, but where was the long range planning to provide for the other schools in this county!!!! Shame! Shame on the power folks in charge..

The voters approved the bond money which was used to build SCHS. There is money left over but the County Commissioners have decided with the slow economy, combined with the reduced number of new students entering the county, no more new schools would be built with the remaining money. Instead, they're checking the wording of the referendum to see if the remaining money can be used to upgrade and repair the remaining schools in the county.
I attended the grand opening and dedication ceremonies this past Sunday and I must say it's amazing what you can build with $63M!

I personally don't agree with the location of the new school though. I understand the need to ease overcrowding at EG, SP, & the newly built Forestview but can anyone please explain WHY the school was built in Belmont? Was there not any land elsewhere?
Over 80% of the kids who live in Mt Holly now attend HS's in Belmont when there's a HS in Mt Holly! It makes no sense to me. The new HS would've been better served in Stanley, they could've reduced the size which would've freed up money for other schools. Also, that would've allowed those kids to attend HS in their town while relieving the overcrowding at EG, leaving the Mt Holly kids IN Mt Holly, thus reducing the overcrowding at SP allowing the Belmont kids to return to SP from FV, thus easing the overcrowding there as well.
I guess the County Commissioners, as well as the BOE, just couldn't stomach building a new HS in Stanley!

The school is in Cramerton - not Belmont. Two considerations for the location:

1. Land available that is suitable for a high school.

2. Area of projected growth

With those two considerations- it was a logical choice.

I thought the same thing but the official address is 101 Lakewood Road, Belmont, NC.
There is plenty of land within the county that's suitable for a HS, I just figured one of the local politicians must have got a kickback off of the Lakewood land.
As far as projected growth, just saw where developers want to build another 810 homes on the shores of Lake Wylie!
Guess that answers that!

Make no mistake SCHS IS in Belmont

Sorry, I do not get the importance of the address. The location however is definitely an issue for many.
That being said, best of luck to all associated with SCHS. Just remember humility, responsibility, and hard work speak volumes. Also, best of luck to the other schools of Gaston County that have and hopefully will continue to achieve excellence academically and athletically with far less than the perks of SCHS.

There is land near N. Hope/Union Road edge of S. Gastonia and land in slide area to Stanley/MH triangle- either area would be logical because that is where some land still exists for more houses to be built. No more expansive room in Belmont/Cramerton to build. You can see the SP peninsula that is a rock's throw away from SC is Belmont, but half those kids go to FV already and that is part of the area where the new school should've been built. This school makes no sense where it was put to 99% of us. You better believe major kickbacks and backscratching is going on. Have you seen the lines they drew? Kids in Cramer woods go to SP...not FV or SC.

Yet the kids who live a mile away from EG are assigned to SC and the kids who live on S. Main St, Mt Holly are assigned to SP! Go figure!

agree with papa!!!! location! location! it just does not logically make sense... the community identity is lacking.... even though the majority of the students will come ultimately from Mt. Holly... it is not as near that town as it is to Cramerton or Belmont????? vision was lacking....

The proposed Mount Holly connector will go through the Peachtree area and be a straight shot to MH. Smarter people than this forum made the projections. I think they knew what they were doing. It was a good call.

Stuart Cramer is within the city limits of the Town of Cramerton but has a Belmont address. The communities of Lakewood and Timberlake also are in the Town of Cramerton but have Belmont addresses. As a Cramerton resident, I am proud of the school. However, I don't understand why they settled on that spot for the school. There are neighborhoods that are a stones throw away that aren't going to go to SCHS and then some that will come from 8 miles away. makes no sense!

You know, the one that's been "projected." By the time the funds are allocated, the work starts, and it's finally completed (if ever), they'll be 15 classroom trailers outside of SCHS as well.

Exactly! Students from Cramer Woods will attend SP but students who live up around Freightliner in Mt Holly will attend SCHS......when there's a HS in Mt Holly!
Again, go figure!

NCDOT has definite plans for a MH connector to run from Wilkinson to MH just east of the South Fork River. It would have been built by now had the economy not turned sour. This is public knowledge. The showed the planned route a few years ago at a public meeting.
