Oct 5, 2013 Full story: The Gaston Gazette 22

They could tear it down and build something much less majestic, to the likely dismay of downtown merchants and neighbors.

Great article. I think Jeff if this doesn't go thru...you should paint it Mr.
troublemaker and his real estates wife's favorite colour...black...or maybe flaming red...

So - Ms. Love's long comment at the end of the article boils down to this: what will the average tax paying citizen who lives here get from pulling this off?

1. A weakened code that cracks open the possibilities of destroying the character of this town.
2. She says her business will bring more people - which to us translates more traffic congestion, drinking, and noise ( it already sounds like NYC in Belmont - constant sirens).
3.????? and what else?

Is there anything wrong with her opening a store here? No - use one of the many places that are vacant and zoned for such.

Stop all the " I love lil ole Belmont" crap. We see through those things. Let me give you a good example of an outsider who came in here and embarrassed us and already ruined our downtown - I don't even need to mention the name!

I would say jeff is the trouble maker in this situation. What kind of neighbor sells out his friends and neighbors to business's all in the name of greed? Let's not forget this decision will set a precedent that pave the way or stop others.

As much as they have been touting the incredibly weak argument that they can do whatever they want to with the property, if City Council doesn't pass the re-zoning, he'll practically have to do something outrageous to property in order to prove the point.

This could be just the beginning!

Devalue your own property to spite someone? He would not do that. On the other hand what's to say the business couldn't paint the house purple? Paint color is not a restriction under the rezoning request.

Paint colour might be restricted, but not who he desires to rent his property. I think Allison Love should just forget about Belmont, go to Mt. Holly where they would welcome her with open arms...and let Belmont go. Furthermore, so I guess Char Hutchinson at string bean is not a welcomed business and especially now since he's sold one of the buildings to another Restaurant movie star, etc...The Jonas Brothers...and they are going to be remodeling both of those corner locations...ole my word...what will this do to main St. This restaurant is in competition with Chad...why didn't he consult with Mr. Troublemaker on this decision...and Johnny B's...why on earth did Doug move to this location from New Hope Rd. where I loved to go there because of convenience. From what I understand Ms. Love walked the streets of Belmont trying to find a location...none were available or already were in process of leasing out ...I hope that she brings so much traffic that it jams the street...maybe all these little shops across the street might increase their sales over last year. When you talk about noise I guess you need to eliminate the Friday Night Concerts in the summertime. Why don't you just make a list of everything you don't like about what's going on in Belmont present it to the Council and let's just get rid of all of them...and that includes all the people you like in business. Jeff, I admire you for wanting something good to happen to your house, I had the small minded "troublemakers" group is making Belmont a joke, but this is typical Gastonia....no growth...let's let everybody take their $$$ to Mecklenburg County...Ole by the way...why would you want to buy a house in Belmont if there's nothing of value there except the chosen few businesses. The reason places across the USA is because they have the home town feel, they have a variety of businesses and restaurants. Blowing Rock, Hendersonville, Shelby, New Bern, the list goes on and on...but if Belmont continues with this attitude and follows Mr. Troublemaker...years from now...you will have a dried up little town just like ghetto Gastonia main St...because he thinks the same way. Jealousy creates a lot of issues...I once was given some very good advice by a very smart businessman..."Be a solution, not the problem, if you're the problem become the solution with grace and dignity" Ego is a dangerous problem..

Agreed! She coming here with a my way or the highway attitude and intentionally gone around town picking petty fights with other merchants basically showing her butt. Arriving into town on your broomstick trying to change everything to suit your needs ain't the best business strategy IMHO.

Hey Abe,

Go back and read the article! You missed the whole point, the neighbors in that block do NOT mind. They spoke in favor of the business being a tenant. No one in that block felt "sold out".

The lady who complained about Stowe Manor lives on South Point Road. She moved here from Charlotte, I think. Stowe Manor was here first, and she should have done her homework before buying on a busy road. It is not like Stowe Manor causes a lot of trouble hosting a wedding every once in awhile. Good grief!

I think this is a malicious lie....plain and simple...from what I heard she went around to business owners as an introduction...and to also make sure some of the items these stores carry, she wouldn't carry them in her store. I haven't heard of any my way or highway from anyone downtown Belmont. I think this is just an outright lie....and I hope she challenges anyone saying differently because most of this stuff is SLANDER and that's a nice little lawsuit...

She lives across the street in a historic home. This rezoning sets a precedent for rezoning downtown and all downtown homeowners should care. It's not ALL about what the Thompsons want, it effects the entire downtown neighborhood. Why should our rights be any less important than yours?

Exactly the point, they don't care!!! Many other homeowners do care as well they should. Please try to think of others who have invested everything in their homes and love living here. It's not all about YOU!

Go to the Better Business Bureau web site and check out her rating. It is a fact. Very bad ratings.

Absolutely not me! My couple of posts have my name beside them. I will not hide behind an anonymous status. This site is unhealthy and unproductive for EVERYONE on it. I simply posted for those that did not have any information or had bad information.

Lol you're no leader of mine you ignorant, coward! And what type of business do you have? With your lack or spelling and basic grammar, I'd say the soda shop.
