The Dems had a great first night, especially compared to the remarkably lame Repub convention. Speaker after speaker was more animated, more interesting, more convincing. By contrast to the Repubs, the Dem conventioneers were actually in the hall for the speeches, listening and reacting.

I’m sure the fact-checking universe will find fault with some of the Dem statements. For example, the constant references to the four million-plus private-sector jobs created during the Obama years is some kind of artful half-truth that relies on controlling when you start the clock and which jobs you count.

But I predict that if anyone has the nerve to study it, the Repub convention will be remembered as one of the all-time highs of willful, stubborn, don’t-need-no-stinkin’-facts truthiness. The Dems will have a half-decent defense almost all their assertions.

Sounds like at least half of the delegates are a little upset about it.

Volunteers were promised tickets. Now the bullshit was moved ( couldn't fill the seats)and the helpers were told to view it on TV.

Anyone looking forward to Eva Longoria's speech tonight? She seems to think it is going to go great! I was a bit skeptical about her but this article made me think differently-

The problem wasn't just the weather.(1) we only gave out about 35,000 tickets of the 75,000 we had. The demand wasn't as great as we thought it would be. Now a lot of those free tickets were taken as souvenirs. Anytime you give free tickets to a presidential event with the presidents photo on it a good percentage will never be used but saved. Our analysts were saying we could probably count on 26-27,000. We could have crowed them around the stage to make the stadium appear full but the press had gotten wind of the fact that we couldn't fill the venue.(2) The NC delegates suggested opening the gates and letting everyone in. That was thought to be problematic because the protesters and the Tea party people would get in and heckle. And the people who stood in line and got tickets would be upset.

It was decided that the best scenario would be to say that the weather would cause us to move the event indoors. The weather on Thursday evening was actually only partly cloudy and mild when the president spoke.
