Some sports fans seem to have gone wild.

The males are accused of violating the boy with a beer bottle and taking pictures at a party, the mother of one of the accused youths, who hosted the party, previously told The StarPhoenix.

Shae Pruden, age 20, and Orrie J. Rodh, 20, are also charged with sexual assault in connection with the incident of March 13, 2009 at Mervin, which is 86 kilometres northwest of North Battleford.

Pruden, Rodh and two of the youths return to court Oct. 6. The other two teens return Nov. 3.
The victim’s aunts, grandparents and parents also stood by. One of his aunts was dismayed by the host’s mother’s apparent minimizing of the incident.“It s just the lack of accountability of the mother who was interviewed, saying that this was just boys not knowing the boundaries. And that concerns me. If that is coming from a parent I can see why these boys are out of control.“ People who were present during the assault recorded it on their phone video cameras, thus providing ample evidence of the crime, she said.

“It was incredibly inappropriate and it should not be swept under the carpet and minimized or played off with negotiations,(as if) this is a party trend. That is completely unacceptable,” she said.

“If I were the parent and I found that my son was alleged to have done these type of allegations I would certainly be getting at the truth and getting them some help, as opposed to trying to get them off and minimizing the severity of what has taken place.

The aunt said she is amazed by the pressure coming from some people in the community.

“They’re saying,‘These are boys, these are kids. You’re going to ruin their lives.’ If I were a parent I would be getting some professional help and I would be very thankful and I would say what a courageous young man that was to come forward.”

She is also irked by the suggestion that other similar incidents make this one less significant.

“I think that’s where we have to draw the line. Perhaps this will be the incident that draws awareness to it and maybe parents will start paying more attention and the children themselves will realize, if they haven’t been taught these values in their home, that it is inappropriate.”

The mother whose son hosted the party previously told The StarPhoenix that she and her husband were home when about 25 of his friends partied in the basement.

The parents provided snacks and soft drink but observed that some of the teens had brought beer.
Around 3 a.m., when the parents shut down the party, they noticed the 15-year-old sitting on the couch while others played cards, the mother said.
Several days later, the mother learned Turtleford RCMP were investigating a possible sexual assault alleged to have occurred at the home that night.
