Congress mandated that the last day for full-power television stations to broadcast in analog would be February 17, 2009, over-the-air TV broadcasts will be in digital only after that date.

After buying a converter box at Radio Shack and connecting an HDTV indoor antenna, the only displays I received were Weak Signal or No Signal. Then I connected an HDTV antenna with an amplifier (Terk HDTVa) and began receiving about 12 stations that were crisp and clear. This may be a general problem in weak signal areas.
