Doesn't a "one-time" charge become an "every-time" charge when it reoccurs each quarter for the last 7 years?

Wow, Bill! You read my mind. I cannot even remember a quarterly report where there wasn't some tom-foolery-horse-manure set of excuses for disgraceful earnings: Oh, it's the Exchange Rate... Oh, it's "restructuring" (read: firing folks and having to pay severance). What a crock of soup!

When I started, annual sales were around $13 Billion. Profit margins on items like Reversal Films often reached 80%. Heck, even the "premium items" we gave to customers were made in the USA. Frankly, I am SHOCKED that there's minimal profits in the cheesy stuff you mention.(Kidding of course). A friend who, like me, was "downsized" and who went to Fuji tells me that their Corporate Philosophy is to FIRST: keep their employees who make their products. SECOND: Be the last manufacturer of sensitized goods on the planet. THIRD: As long as they break even,(profit growth is subordinate to the employment of workers), continuing to do so.

If memory serves me, wasn't that what George Eastman had in mind when he created Kodak and built Rochester?

Rob, I don't think that there's a screw big enough. Maybe they'll go to an outside consulting company to design one!

Several financial magazines listed Kodak as one of the top ten... Top ten companies likely to go under in 2009, that is. I saw an article about B&H Photo, in NYC. They are, as you know, the largest single photo store in the USA. They don't do much with Kodak because Kodak Professional cut them off over a technicality, decades ago, and then Fuji came in and helped them build their mega-store. Everyone dresses in Fuji Green vests.

B&H's annual sales far exceed EK's WORLDWIDE sales annually. This from a single store and internet dept. Arrogance doesn't pay.

At least everybody on the shop floor (what little there is left) is talking nice to each other, building consensus (ala "community organization"), and taking teir weeks off without pay. Why hasn't management been tossed, or isn't their separation pay large enough yet?

Forty years ago, Apollo 11 landed. Every Kodak shareholder, including my dad, received a commemorative package which included several 8 X 10 photographs taken by the astronauts on Ektachrome Film. I recall that every photo magazine ran ads from Hasselblad (for their "Space" 500EL) and Kodak, celebrating their participation in this triumph.

A little over a decade ago, George Fisher accepted an Oscar for Kodak's new MP Films, "A Kodak Moment" he said to the billion folks watching. The stock price at that time was about $90. I think we had 65,000 employees worldwide.

Making money is not a priority for Kodak. Anyone who worked there, knows how backwards this company is.
Perez could care less if Kodak makes a profit. He is getting paid the same if he does his job or not.

How can Kodak "move" to a second quarter loss?

Doesn't "moving" indicate a "change" in location?

They haven't "moved" out of losses in 7 years?

Unless, of course, you discount those pesky one-time charges..........that appear every quarter)

You just can't make up stuff like this .......

Bill has perfectly identified, "KODASPEAK". Very good points. One of my favorite examples of this is when we'd have "town hall" meetings and whomever the corporate officer was, ended every statement they made with: "right?", assuming that we'd buy in to their nonsense. Here's an example of Official Kodaspeak: "Everyone knows we're on a strong path to profitability, RIGHT"?

Where is the Ceo Wall of Shame when you need it?? Corrupt leaders like the ones at Kodak will cause this country to want socialism as a reaction to their excesses. I know one of the top inventors who was laid off after making millions for the company. Can you say: age discrimination ?
