1 So you want to be next to the guy talking loudly on his phone for a 3 or 4 hour flight???? That is also a major issue. Most people talking to someone next to them will usually talk in a quit voice, but will need to speak up on the phone due to limited reception. |

1 So, the man who used the cell phone for the medical emergency is right to do so. |

if he was talking for 4 hours about BS then i would be pissed also, but, if he was discussing his critically ill father and if i were in that position, i would tell all of them to f off especially after paying probably a fortune for the flight.

Then why can't you use them in the ER? Or gas station (I don't even understand that one)? |

1 We were just in the movie theater the other day and a woman in front of us refused to stop talking and text messaging during the movie. We have become a society of me-me-me self-importance, with total disregard for others. More people need to be reminded about rules and manners. |

I feel he should get the heaviest fine that they can dish out.
I am sorry for his father, but rules are rules he took a chance and could of cost the passengers there life. |

It doesn't matter what the reason was for the call. A rule is a rule, whether you like it or not. He was purposely defiant and disrespectful.

Our society needs to get off the high horse. Everyone thinks they are an exception to the rule, because THEIR situation is different. They can wear what they want to the prom, talk on their phone when they want, treat their animals however they want.... No, sorry.
As a society we have to set a standard for behavior and we have to enforce it, and we haven't been. How do we like the results so far? |

whats the big deal?

i agree with other posters here- whether cell phones interfere or not, it's a rule. whatever happened to the saying "its a priviledge, not a right"? it comes down to respect. it's unfortunate that this man's father is critically ill, but unless he was flying to see his father in the hospital- this guy should've just waited to board an airplane if his father is so ill. some people want to have their cake and eat it too..

ok so if any of you were on a flight and your phone rang and it was your father's doctor telling you something was wrong and you needed to make a decision about his medical treatment which is urgent and may have complications and he could die......im sure none of you would say, oh doctor, let me call u back when i land. who knows what the situation was, for all we know he had to make a major life saving medical decision. in that case, like i said, i can live with him talkin on a flight. if it was just jabber and pointless talking that could have waited? yeah i would have been pissed also.
|
yes that's true, but he wasn't making an "hey what are you doing call" it was a life or death situation, if the shoe was on the other foot and it was your dad or your son what would you have done---- I guess follow the rules right? |
|
|
And what exactly was he going to be able to do to help his father at 35,000 feet?
I agree with Redneck. It is really just an airline rule. The FAA has said that it would not cause any problem with the aircraft's navigation. But a rule is a rule and should be followed. I don't like the idea of a commotion at 35,000 feet without a parachute:) |

I understand his concern for his father, yet there are certain rules that we all must adhere to.
