What really disturbs me is the possibility that one of these people are texting while driving on the highway, and I am approaching in the other direction and that person is not paying attention to their driving. Guess who gets killed or seriously injured ? Like I always said " FAMILIARITY BREEDS CONTEMPT".

having a son who is a school teacher he also has problems with cell phone use in his class.. but some of this use has taken a different turn not mentioned.. texting during a test, kids are so good at it, no one knows, I say the phone does not belong at school, parents do you not know when your child has class and the interruption your causing. if its that important call the office and they will get the message to them.. if caught texting during a test.. should be handled as if the child has been cheating.

Wow, people have to learn to live with rules? Who knew....
I have been talking to professionals who start texting while I am talking to them, and have heard of someone at a family member's place of business getting fired for texting while in a meeting with their boss, who was talking directly to them.

I am a working mother with an elementary age child who recently had a traumtic brain injury. He is in private school and so the issue with him and I cell phone, he has one, rarely goes to school with it and it is required to be off if he does. I believe this more to be a safety concern. If himself or another child or teacher had need to call 911 it is available. Most of the teachers have anyways, and they have an intercom to call to the office if the need would arise. Scrambling tools would not only be a safety issue but a liability issue as well. The cell phone at work. There is an issue that I dont agree with your comment, give them your work # in case something happens. My situation requires my child to have one to one supervision, to wear a safety helmet for a period of one year at the least, mutiple therapies and doctor visits. All of these things require phone contact, and with the FMLA and some of us not wanting to abuse the protection provider under this law, I would expect nothing less then an open mind for my superiors, then to miss addition time off because I am waiting for a return call or someone is trying reach me because they need authorization from insurance/precertification etc. Since this requires a reduced work schedule and varying hours based on appts sheduled with therapist and specialist. Not every working parent, or student cheats lies or steals. Sarcasm Lives wrote: I wonder how many of you have cell phones and are constantly using them/"texting" (if that's a word) with them when it's not necessary. When I was a "people" manager, my employees always said.."I have children, I need my cell phone in case something happens." I said...give em your work number and have them call you here. Adults, as much as children, are guilty of using their cell phones at unnecessary times. It's a plague, a plague on both your houses!!! Lol...Enjoy party people.

Now this I agree with, handsfee devices or stay off the phone. Not only is this a safety issue, but also traffic issues too! sogoestheworld wrote: Tougher penalties for cell phones behind the stirring wheel is more important,

Hey scott,
Just wondering USF doesn't have any rules about bloging/internet use while at work? With the hire freeze/ and USF is State of Florida, tax cuts and stuff?

there is an extent to the punishment for having a cell phone in school. out of school suspension or in school suspension is what i believe crossing the line. detention or something like that is reasonable. anything else is a little bit much. i don't think that a school administrator as any right to take away someone's property. if my child came home and said that their cell phone got taken away in school, i would be more the unhappy. it is my position to punish my child. if i want to take away my child's cellphone then i will. i also believe that there is a huge double standard. as much as a child may be at fault for using a cell phone in school so is any teacher or faculty member.

If the parents want their kids to go to school and learn and the kids can do so with a cell phone great. If the parents see a drop in grades and determine its because of the cell phone then they need to take the distraction away. Notice the key word is "parents". The school is there open and available to teach the kids, if the kids have an issue learning because of cell phones or whatever its the parents responsibility to correct this. Teachers are just that...teachers....not surrogate parents.
