You say you answered your phone at the cash register and ask to call back later. You did not inconvenience people behind you and you did not miss an important call. No harm no foul. I’m still not convinced staying still is a good thing or going forward is a bad thing. It’s true a person can be rude but remember people on the whole are considerate. I’m still pro cell. Actually I didn’t ask, I stated I would return the call and hung up, total length of the call was under 10 seconds. It was one of my customers. Now, those people who try to get in a word anyway they get one chance with me, after that I won’t answer their calls until I’m in a more appropriate place. It’s funny sometimes. I have a few friends who are horrible with their phone. They become enraged at others who do the exact same thing they do. I’m not sure they realize just how often they’re just as rude. I’m not sure there are any easy answers on this. We must ask ourselves is all this instant access really a good thing for us? Do we really need to be talking on the phone so much?

I work in public, I sell suits. For some reason (75%)? of people talk to loud on their cell phones. It seems that when they get into a conversation that everyone around them disappears.
Have you ever heard someone in public arguing with someone on their cell phones?
Have you ever served someone who was talking on the cell phone the entire time?
Have you ever had someone come back in to talk to you because they don't understand the receipt or even how much they paid, because they weren’t even giving the simple damned courtesy of listening to you?
Have you ever heard someone in public describing how big a p3nis the man she slept with the previous night?

The one last haven that we have for being safe from rude people and their loud talking on cell phones has been lost. What in the he** do people have to talk about that's so important that they can't wait until they get on the ground? DISGUSTING

They should have a "No Cell Phone" section of the plane similar to the "No Smoking" section they had in restaurants a while back. Then anyone who wants a nice quiet flight can pay extra for that. Kind of like paying extra for more leg room and free drinks in first class.

Your plan is bass-ackwards.

You pay extra for more leg room, the nice silverware in first class, to check your bags curbside, if your baggage is oversized or weight, if you want to sit in an exit row, or if you want to travel on a Friday or Sunday. It's only natural to pay not to be annoyed too.

You can always try to jump into the conversation. That's my favorite. Say things like, "What did he say?" or "I don't think that's a good idea."

Maybe anyone who desires to use a cell phone in flight should be provided seating in the cargo hold.
