I'm not sure what to make of this rumor. Winnipeg Jets forward Kane is rumored to have ran some some big bills at several upscale restaurants. I have not been in Winnipeg for quite some time, so I am not too sure if the rumor is true.

Heard this "rumour" addressed as "fact" from staff & management @ Opera, the Keg & Earls.
Listening to CJOB & TSN 1290, they allude to "off the ice antics" being the reason for the recent reduced ice time to Kane.
Evander should be tipping 50%-400% on his bills like other pro athletes, not making the waitresses tip out the kitchen staff a percentage of their shifts gross sales (yes that's how it works) from their own pocket. That $600 bill you refused to pay cost that poor waitress $20 from her minimum wage job.
What a shame that this one trick Pony who has one move (skate down the left wing and take the puck to the boards) has to tarnish the Jets image in our community. At least Tkachuk paid his bills when he was nailing 5-10 Winnipeg girls a night in the basements & offices of Wise Guys & the Roxy in the 90's. He was young & immature & has went on the record as being an ass during his tenure here.
Evander's conduct is worse. The most recent "rumour" is his concussion being the result of a fight in downtown Winnipeg last week. Grow up Evander. I hear your father is in town & you're grounded.
Brutal!

If these rumors are true and Kane keeps at it, we should trade him ASAP. I'm sure he can get away with this behavior in a larger centre like Toronto, Vancouver, Chicago, or Southern California. This will just be a needless distraction for the rest of the Jets players.

when the free press goes after someone it usually means hes a good guy. why would a multi millionaire dine and dash? it makes no sense.

It's sad to think this is true when people in our city are going hungry.
I used to be an Evander Kane fan. Not so sure anymore.
Pathetic.

OF COURSE HE DID. Server myself, he expects his bill to be "taken care of" and sorry you're just like every other guest! The server is not going to pay for your meal out of their pocket! The restaurants and establishments are generous enough to give you a discount! When he actually decides to pay his bill, he will stiff the server. This has happened many times!
For those people who are defending him, they're just loyal fans or doing it so he will come back to their establishment - attracting fans, and thus revenue.
I use to be a fan, he is a great hockey player, but not a good person. His actions and lies are unforgivable.
I hope that blast online will teach him a lesson. Appreciate your loyal fans and smarten up!

Those are pretty serious allegations, Sara. Can you provide a source, and the name of the restaurant you work for?

I remember years ago when Pittsburgh Penquins were here playing the original Jets. Some drunk from Staggerville was yelling insults at worldclass athlete Jaromir Jagar. Some high school drop out, vulgar drunk yelling at one of the best players ever to play the game. Now, Winnipeg's media especially The Free Press sportswriters are doing the same thing. We celebrate the return of the NHL by attacking and criticizing every game and every player. Its pathetic

If this was actually happening the police would be getting involved or the restaurant would have a good case for small claims. If the employer tries to make employees pay for meals that customers have not paid for then that is a matter for Labour Standards. There is no hard evidence that this is true. Also, tipping is discretionary. There is no basis to expect that a hockey player or anyone else is obligated to tip beyond the customary 15% for good service. if the person feels that service was great and they can afford to leave a big tip then that is their choice, but it should not in any way be expected.

The real trick pony here is restaurant owners should have to pay real wages not count on customers to subsidize what they should be providing.
As a customer I pay for my meals which are sometimes less than excellent slow service and on top of that I have to pay tax to the province to Canada then i'm also expected to pay waiters and waitresses wages, no thank you i'll eat at home.

i saw evander @ mcphillips casino. he looked about 12 years old in person to me since i am in my 30s, and he was much, much smaller than he looks on tv. hard to believe he was worth 30 million. he looked like any other hip hop kid. (someone confirmed it was him)

What on earth would he be doing at a dump like McPhillips Street Station. Does he have a gambling problem?

Just because someone makes excellent money doesn't mean they are obligated to tip more than anyone else, pay for peoples' meals, or donate anything.

If restaurant owners want to give discounts and special treatment to the hockey players, that's their business.

So I make about $112,000 per annum, so I guess Winnipegers expect me to tip 20 - 30% of my bill? Give your heads a shake, folks!
