I am thinking of renting an apartment on Portage Avenue, how noisy are they? The one that I found faces the street. It is in St James.

Is it easy to get rid of the lease by subletting it, or is it hard to sublet?

I used to live in an apartment on Portage, but facing away from the street. Noise wasn't an issue unless I left the windows open at night in the summer (you might hear the odd siren or screeching tires).

I'd bet noise is probably more noticeable when you're facing Portage, but I doubt it would be a major problem. In any case, it's a tight rental market so I doubt you'd have trouble subletting if you really didn't like the place.

I once lived on a high floor of the "Courts of St James" many years ago. We always had people leaving flyer's in the elevators.Often we would fold them into paper airplanes and sail them off our balcony that faced Portage ave. It was a half block to Portage ave,and often our planes would fly that far and beyond. We never did this to harm anyone, just to see how far the planes would go. It was probably against some sort of law,but great fun at the time.

Everything in Winnipeg is against the law. Soon, thinking will be against the law. Stupid city.

2150 PORTAGE, IS NICE BECAUSE OF ASSINIBOINE PARK. YOU HAVE TO LOVE THE SOUNDS OF PLANES LANDING AND TAKING OFF FROM 3AM UNTIL 3AM DAILY...

AND IF YOU DO NOT LIKE ST JAMES, YOU CAN ALWAYS MOVE DOWNTOWN TO THE MILK CARTON BLDG ON SMITH STREET. YOU WILL GET A GIGANTIC BALCONY YOU CAN NEVER WALK ON BECAUSE OF PIGEON POOP AND GLASS FROM THE WINE BOTTLES THEY THROW OFF THE 20 SOMETHINGTH FLOOR. NOT TO MENTION A BOWLING BALL ON A SUNDAY AM WHEN PEOPLE ARE WALKING TO A CHURCH ACROSS THE STREET, OR A LAUNDRY BASKET WITH A CAT IN IT THROWN OFF THE BALCONY. GOTTA LOVE DOWNTOWN WINNIPEG CRAP MENTALITY. MORE THAN THAT HAPPENS, TRUST ME.
