I'm new to Winnipeg. When does the snow usually melt here around the end of March? I want to be able to ride my bike again. Please spare the anti-Winnipeg remarks. Thanks!

Actually usually before April but sometimes we get a surprise blizzard in April, like we did April 7, 1997. Then there are other problems such as the risk of flooding from the various rivers. BTW, WELCOME TO WINNIPEG. It's best to try to ENJOY the snow in some way -- e.g., cross-country skiing is a good sport, or take up curling or some winter activity. Otherwise, you risk becoming like a bear, hibernating until spring. Actually that works for me.

Yeah, it can start to snow as early as mid-Oct. or as late as mid-Dec. but usually around mid-Nov. and then by the last week of March it is gone. Sometimes it seems to go quite dramatically. One day you just wake up and everything is all melted. In 2005 we had a snowstorm in the middle of May. May 11. It was kind of freaky. One day it was 20 above and then next day this freak storm. Weird stuff happens here weather-wise. That is why people talk about the weather so much. But it is a great place to live. There is nothing so beautiful as a prairie sunset and the aurora borealis is magnificent in the winter. I love the wide open feel of the prairies. I lived in a large European city and found it too crowded and it was then that I realized how much I loved the prairies and the wide open spaces. Sometimes you have to leave something to realize how beautiful it really is.

So why don't you grow up and quit whining. Is there anything you like or are you just a totally negative person? I suspect that no matter where your parents chose to live, you would be complaining. That is who you are and what you are about. If they lived in the tropics you would complain about the snakes and scorpions and tropical diseases. They live in Winnipeg so you complain about the cold. Whine, whine, whine.

Winnipeg is never beautiful. It simply does not have the raw materials to make it beautiful. It is a shithole!!

WINNIPEG IS A SEWER. It is a depressing, boring, dangerous place to live in. Snow can start anytime and it melts whenever it is warm outside. Pray for the sun. Not much of a sun here either.

Around late march-april. Winnipeg is a good place to work, bad place to socialize, provided you aren't from around here.

[I found your message about Winnipeg, I read you are hating living in Canada. I have been in Canada 10 years ago to my aunt, my cousin and my uncle. They are roumanians, canadian citizens. I am from another country, from Romania and I visited them, maybe you heard about my cousin Sabrina Iliant in your local newspapers. I stayed one mounth. It was a beautiful experience and I really loved to be there , i can say that it's a nice town, but I remembered the snow, the weather was so , so cold. Lucky for me that we used the car. If you want to talk to me please mail me to: [email protected]

Usually around May 24 the snow finally melts... then 3 or so weeks of "spring" This is a beautiful season in Winnipeg flowers and shoots on the trees battle all the sand, dust and gravel flying around in the wind.
This is leftover on the streets, boulevards and lawns all over town from the winter sanding to make the roads drivable..

Now we are entering into summer..the thick of mosquito season will soon be upon us as hordes of West Nile and Malaria spreading bugs attack every available piece of real estate on your body. But this can be combated by cancer causing organic compound insecticide Malathion..it is "safe".. at least Winnipeg believes it is . As it is the only city in North America that still uses it.

But dont despair your childs cancer cluster!!! Mosquito season usually ends like clockwork on Sept 1..Then there is 2 weeks of autumn and the first snow flies around September 15.. and another eight month of snow and winter to follow. If you are lucky the temperature will not dip below -40c until November 1.

Enjoy your stay in Canadas very own Third World Paradise!

Here's the facts, winnipeg is seperated into two cities, one on one side of portage and one on the other. One side contains the northern area of the city, this iis where the gangs, drugs and illegal activity usually comes from. The other side of portage is a great place, clean, safe, and nice to look at. The only problem is these two seemingly seperate cities are connected and have people constantly giving contradicting statements in regards to eachother.

I say you do you and enjoy where you live, otherwise fix the situation and leave.
