This is a great idea. Doctors please listen.Sop giving these pills to innocent men and woman who get addicted and it is'nt fair. Who is giong to get these people off. There are no real facilities to deal with the longterm devistation that they cause. Atarax certainly could be used instead in a lot of the anxiety cases.

Want to post some context, so we know what you're talking about? What's wrong with Ativan and Clonazepam (as compared to all the other tricyclics and benzos?)

Benzos are very dangerous drugs to be given out as sleeping pills.Ativan and Clonazapam are highly addictive and cause a myriad of health problems which cost a fortune to our medicare
system. Clonazapam and Ativan are Benzos and all Benzos are the same ...dangerous and addictive. They should not be used long term. And when and if you ever get off them you get so sick that it takes years to get better with the most sickening side symptoms that non-one would believe.

Benzos are all the same .These are the drugs that killed Anna Nicole Smith and Stevie Nicks was addicted to for years.
Doctors must stop prescribing these pills(ativan clonazapam, valium )to people
who are not seriously ill. They are only
supposed to be used in an emergency or once in a while not every day except for people
who are dangerous to themselves or others.
They are seriously and they wreck your nerves and muscle. Also they cause hair loss in woman and cause liver damage. The symptoms are endless and they cause panic attacks worse than the panic attacks that one takes them for.Tell your friends before they get hooked. No person should ever have to go through the horrendous withdrawl. That is why these movie stars
never get off these Benzos. These pills wreck your life if you live. And they make you fat too.

You can use Hydroxazine for anxiety. It is also called atarax. It has practically no side effects except you can't take it if you have asthma or glacoma. It makes you very sleepy so take it about three hours before bed and you only need ten mg. It is not a brain drug and it also controls panic but it does not work as fast as Bezos but it is so much safer and it is NOT habit forming. And of course you must get it from a doctor as it is not over the counter. It is also an antiallergan. So if you have bad sinuses it works so much better and safer than all those horribly bad over the counter sinus drugs. They are also used to get people off alcohal smoking and Benzo

ATIVAN is the worst drug in the history of chemicals-even if you get off years later you are still suffering from nerve and muscle pain. Anyone who is watching this blog stop taking them before you get hooked!!!
Clonazapam is the same and valium...they zre BENZOS AND they are BAD.Make sure when you to the doctor that the doctor tell you if the pills are habit forming or addictive. After you are hooke and all the horrible symptoms start appearing The government should make it illiegal to give these pills to people who are not seriously ill. They cause many suicides each year!!!!!!!!!!

it's obvious to me that the person who is so hellbent on getting these meds banned is using more than one username. On another note, this could be the most pathetic topic I have yet to come across.

I used these pills years ago and I still never have gotten rid of my muscle pain. The withdrawl is the worst and anyone who is thinking of going on these don't.....it takes years out of your life.It takes at least five years before your body and mind gets back to sort of normal. Benxos are muscle relaxers but they end up giving you the tightest muscles. You want pain...take these.

ella is just another handle in the long list of handles of the topic's author. Don't be fooled. Agree or disagree with the use of benzodiazepines, but don't make up garbage like "ativan ruined my muscles" or "it started when I went on xanax, I ended up on the streets smoking crack".

People are smart enough to figure out if drugs like xanax and clonazepam are good for them. Don't spread lies to get your point across.

PS saying muscle relants cause muscle pain is like saying beer makes you sober.

To Tom..That is my truth...that is what happened to me.
You must be a drug rep.
I was a normal healthy person before I was given these pills by a doctor because I got a divorce and my doctor thought that he should give me a prescription
although I never asked him for anything. I had no physical pain before I took them and a few months later started having troubles walking and ended up walking with a walker. I am a young person and
no doctor could find out what was wrong. Then I started having other problems like diarrhea and I started to vomit every other night for no reason.I got new crazy symptoms every other night but the muscle pain has stayed with me even after a very long withdrawl process.
I still have horrible muscle spasms and I still have difficulty sitting. The hair which fell out has grown back and my ears have finally stopped ringing.
My scalp is finally stopped iching and burning. The muscle problems are still plaguing me and I pray that I will be better soon but this withdrawl prccess which doctors poo-poo is real . You can go on the net and see Proffessore Heather Ashton's research BENZO.ORG ...There thousands of people just like me and this is true so if you want to suffer take these pills and you will get hooked and you will fall apart and you willl have pain.
These are the devil meds ...in my opinion.BEWARE
ATIVAN,CLONAZAPAM, VALIEUM,LIBRIUM AND ZANEX on a regulare basis. These pills are only to be used less thatn two weeks and only for serious mantal patients. Otherwise use ATARAX...OR HYDROXAZIEN...they are non-addictive and are used
fro gettin off BENZOE and for allergies and they do help you sleep. You get them from your doctor.
I pray for you if you are hooked on benzos...go to AAA...they are great...they help everyone even if you are on these pills.

[I am sorry but i do not agree with you! I have been on Ativan on and off and ity is agreat working oill for Anxiety for me. I never felt that i got addicted because i get it only if i feel like i am getting anxious or having a panic attack. Anna Nicole or some others died because they abused the drug and mixed it with some other sleeping pills and It clearly says at Ativan sid effects and warnings that YOU CAN NOT USE Ativan with any sleeping pills nor MAO inhibitors or any other narcotic antidepressants either! Check your doctor before using any other medicine with Ativan. Ativan is the only working pill for Panic attacks and anxiety if you use it for that purpose only!!!]

Hi.. You are totally right about these awful benzos.. did you know that Health Canada had banned these a few years back.. and when I emailed them about this .. they took everything off on the internet about this ban... Don't know for sure if there is still a ban in the Netherlands , but I know they placed a ban on Ativan quite a few years ago.
If you want more details , let me know and I will tell you how I got interested about this damn med.

To Pamela..: Here in Quebec , some doctors prescribe Ativan for people who are going through chemotherapy.. I know a woman who had breast cancer and this is what was given to her.. to stop the aftereffects of chemotherapy.. such as vomiting , etc. Her husband told me that a few months before she died , she became very aggressive. This is one of the reasons , the Netherlands banished Ativan many years ago.. I do agree with you , that all medication must be followed exactly as prescribed by their doctor.. I am glad to hear that this product is helping you cope.. I send you all my best.

you people are crazy. Some people (a lot of people) wouldn't even be able to step outside the door of their house, let alone function without them. I don't think it's any of YOUR rights to take away the rights of people that want a certain medicine, not matter what it is, as long as it's helping them, heck even if it wasn't, as long as they are consenting to taking them and were told of the possible, and some of the quite normal mild side effects from both long and short term use/they should be educated by their doctor and not just shoveled benzos. Now that's just stupid. But IMO, there is no reason what so ever that any benzo should ever be banned; unless they found a medicine that was the ONLY medicine that worked for certain/various people (many of whom have tried MANY different options/combinations of different prescription drugs other than benzos) than I would hypothetically support, not really a ban, but just stopping the making of them because a far superior drug was synthesized. But imo, I don't think that there will be anything that comes close to the theraputic values, which far outweight those for the people that take them and don't get these "terrible/life threatening/they are killing people" side effects that have been spoken on here..the theraputic value that is, not the number of a "type of people" against another. IMO, I don't think they ever should of banned and stop making old school (like circa 1940's to late 1960's) barbituates and tranqulizers; not that I think they should be prescribed to "the random people of the masses", but EACH medicine that was ever made that ended up producing great/significant amounts of theraputic value vs. the negative side effects, so why get rid of a medicine when it works better than any other out there that exists for example a specific and rare condition/symptom.
Banning any benzos if idiot in my opinion. The drugs are getting the blame when it's your "loose" doctors up there that prescribe though things (according to the attitude of everyone here) like candy, and furthermore and worse more not (apparantly as you all generally claim) tell you about what the dangers are as well as the possible to very possible side effects (which imo, if the patient is told about the dangers/side-effects/"wha t to expect generally" than it's now also the patient's responsibility for wtf they are doing/taking, now isn't it? Mkay?

I totally agree with you Taxavier! I am one of those people that wouldnt go out of my home without my Ativans and Buspar. I have major panic attacks, GAD and social phobia. I have been on Ativan for 6 months I take 1mg 3 times a day,and have no addiction to them. It is not the Ativan that is hurting people, they are hurting themselves by making the decision to abuse the medication and by the way Ativan does not make you fat, my mother has been on it for 3 years and is 5'7 and 125lbs, I am 5'6 and 113 lbs. Sure isnt making us fat.......

So i spoke to a doctor and she said shes an expert and blah blah, she was the prelim before i speak with a psych and in her assessment she kept talking about ativan and that that is definately one of the drugs to be perscribed as well as some form of anti-psychotic.

I'm pretty freaked out to be totally honest. i had some bad reaction to paxil years ago and since ive been pretty anti pills.

I am torn between my need to get whatever imbalance worked out and my distrust for pill pushin doctors....

I cant say she has me too convinced this is what i need and the reviews here are not positive for the most part, also most information i find is not for the drugs, its more against.

i feel that i dont want to take this drug but i am at a point where if i dont do something... well im just going to go on doing the exact same thing ive been doing, mostly nothing.

I dont understand why the gouvernment should ban Ativan if it really helps some people like me who takes it once in a while(maybe once a month). And i dont have any side effects. I don't see why responsible people show pay the price for those that abuses our health system.
