Call to Action! February 26,2014
CRC Delegation presenting on well-water issues at GET Council March 3, 7:00 PM; please attend to show your support.
Urgent: Please write now to express your concerns with the recommendations for revision of the Aggregate Resources Act!!
Background: In the spring of 2012 the provincial government launched a review of the Aggregate Resources Act.
A Committee of MPPs representing all parties heard/read hundreds of presentations from citizens, municipalities, representatives of aggregate and environmental organizations, and aggregate companies.
Given the number of quarry applications which are being made and raising concerns among residents across Southern Ontario the submissions were fascinating reading.
The Committee completed its work last fall, releasing a Report with Recommendations for comment (attached).
Hidden Quarry concerns: The Aggregate Resources Act is the legislation administered by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources which covers the licencing of pits and quarries.
The application for a licence for the Hidden Quarry is under consideration by MNR now.
It is clear that the revisions to the Act DO NOT address our concerns regarding the Hidden Quarry application.
The CRC has written a formal letter to the Committee with our comments.(attached)
We urge you to send in your comments too, before February 28.
You may use the CRC letter as a template, adjusting it as appropriate including your own name and your own particular concerns given what you know about the Hidden Quarry.
We need to respond in large numbers to demonstrate to our elected representatives that our concerns are widely shared.
Please address it, as in the template, to the Honourable Grant Crack who chaired the review committee.
Please also copy all the names included in the letter if possible. If this is too much, please at least copy:
The Minister, Natural Resources David Orazietti and
either Ted Arnott or Ted Chudleigh, whoever is your local MPP.
Youll find their addresses in the copy list.
To read more about the Act itself, in its current form, you can visit:
