hey! i'm in Ontario too, London actually.
I'm really hoping to move to Whitehorse but I'm having trouble finding info on the rentals available there. I've been told that the cost of living is fairly high, but I'm willing to take that chance for the experience anyway.
lemme know if you're able to find more information and I'll keep looking too! Thanks!

Cost of living is very high. I'm paying 1050 a month for a basement suite that doesn't even have a stove. Ripoff to live here unless you have a substantial income

Wow, i'm not sure who would rent a suite without a stove for that price. Average 2 bedroom apartment is $700-$750. Groceries priced at safeway levels but veggies are not as fresh. Fuel $1.39 a litre

thanks all - yet another southern ontario person looking to return to the north with job skills acquired in the south.

Good to know apartments are affordable & available.

Actually, under $800 for a 2 bedroom beats the hell out of toronto. I'm looking to upgrade from my junior one bedroom (read "bachelor with an extra wall") that has pest problems, for which I'm paying $900 a month.

To upgrade to anything better would cost me over $1000!

As long as I can find a comparable job, affording life in the Yukon looks feasible.

My wife and I lived in Alaska for a couple of years. Amazing what people think they sell stuff for. We are in Beaumont, Texas now, and have sworn to move to Canada if Barak Obama is elected US president. We love Whitehorse and the yukon, no matter what the cost. Can't be any worse than Alaska.

Stay in Texas, Mr. Garrett.

Canadians by and large don't take kindly to those of the smaller mindset, you won't like it up here.

On second thought, move to Alaska, you and the Palin-ites would get on just fine I am sure.

wow, just because obama may be elected you'd move to Canada, isn't that an oxymoron?

Don't diss the Americans moving to the Yukon. They provide balance to the nanny state.

You won't like Whitehorse. People there have an open intelligent mind. Republikkkan mindsets not welcome.

I, too, am not sure why an obvious conservative would want to move to Canada if the "evil" Obama is elected. Canada is pretty liberal, so maybe they should stay in the wonderful state of Texas.

Of course, I'm not so sure if Whitehorse is liberal or not, so maybe he would fit right in. I hope not, cause I'm thinking of moving there myself.

So, what is life like in Whitehorse? Are people friendly? Open to new people and ideas, or do you feel like an outsider (as you sometimes can in a smaller town - no offense meant ;)? How are the winters? I suppose the days are short, do you feel closed in?
Is there much going on for kids? for adults? I guess I'm trying to get a feel for the lifestyle...and more importantly the people. So tell me...
