For the past week I have been hearing these very low and deep rumbling noises that seem to be coming from the sky. I'll also mention right away that I know these are not jumbo jets way, way up high. I know what that sounds like. I've only been hearing this for the past week (and a half). It's not coming from one area either. I notice this happening almost daily. It is impossible to tell where exactly it's coming from. It's like thunder, but very subtle, low, deep, constant and lasts for about 40 seconds to a minute. Sometimes it can be so noticeable that even small objects in my house vibrate... I live in the Cordova Bay area, which is where I notice it the most simply because I'll be at home, but today at Uvic while working I heard it once and it definitely got my attention. Again, this is the very first time in my life I've been hearing these noises and I know they're not planes because 1) You can't tell where the rumbling is coming from. 2) Even though sometimes a high flying jet cannot be seen but only heard, you can tell almost exactly whereabouts in the sky it might be and 3) This rumbling I'm hearing (and hopefully you too) is SIMPLY NOT AN AIRPLANE. Small earthquakes perhaps? Signs of a big one coming soon? Maybe it's a warning of some other natural disaster? I'm not scared but am I curious.

Jim wrote: Thanks for the link! Great article and interesting comments. The fighter jet theory is possible but I don't know. Now, I'm not an airplane or sound wave expert, but like some people say in the comments of that article, I also do not think that's it. I was at Uvic today, standing outside a building with more buildings and trees surrounding it. How could I still hear the noise as clear as I always as if I were home, close to the beach...?

Who's doing WHAT in our airspace? The authorities could be asked, the TV stations should do a story on it. Someone IS doing something that is affecting our air space.

I reside in Northeast Ohio (near Cleveland) and I have been hearing these sounds for over the last hour or so. Only until I jumped on the computer did I find that some of you have shared the same feedback. It does sound more like an earthquake (I have experienced two of these in the last 25 years and it sounded very similiar to that, so I checked out the internet to see if there were any recent earthquakes in the area and none have been reported. I just heard the sound again and it is 10:31pm EST. It is definitely not the sound of an airplane. Anyone hearing this tonight?

Im in England and i have become more aware of the sounds overhead and try and notice them when i can.. never do i see a plane.. it is not thunder and it is not a bomb test sight. Usually the most extreme rumblings are followed by bad weather... thats all i know.

I had this happen around 1/2am 1st Feb 2010, Im based in North of UK.
I thought it was Thunder, but sky was clear I could see the moon, I think maybe it was a helicopter, but we live on a flight path for Manchester airport and have planes and helicopters fly over all the time...
The sound lasted for around 40 secs, it was a constant sound like thunder, where as if it was a helicopter or plane the tone would have changed as it passed by ...
will just chalk it up as strange lol
