Do motorists pay taxes, you bet ,usually, as do smokers, they may form a coalition? A Political party? Power in hate , many people vote against, not for the incumbents.

Lowering the speed limit in BC is stupid. The slow, old, senile, or timid already go way below the posted speed limit signs and the rest of the drivers with skills and a clue already go above the speed limit. The speed signs are mostly ignored whenever there are no cops staked out out. What are the pro speed limit people going to do, hire a cop for every street intersection in BC?

Who are these British Columbian morons who think up the idea to lower the speed limit to 40km? This is unnecessary and inefficient. What do you think is going to happen? People will ignore the excessively slow limits and drive fast anyway. The people will vote with their gas pedal. The slow speeds will cause massive traffic jams, slow down the pace of commerce, and lot of other traffic hassles. I am ashamed to be classified as British Columbian along with these nutbars with absolutely zero common sense. You know who you are. You are an embarrassment to us BCers. You make the rest of us look dumb compared to people from Alberta and Saskatchewan. Your kind is a reason why BC is economically lagging behind the other provinces in Canada.

Victorians of Greater Victoria, stop embarrassing yourselves publicly. It doesn't do anyone including yourselves any favours by appearing even more idiotic. Greater Victoria's spotty reputation doesn't need any more help in lowering it some more. You already have the title of "Newly Wed and Nearly Dead" and "No Fun City" nailed down. I'm sure you do not want the title of "Slowest City in Canada" too? The world is speeding up, I suggest you get up to speed and join the 21st Century or everyone else will leave you behind even more.

This story must be a comedy skit on some sort of show, right? You Victoria people are having your tax money wasted by these useless politicians doing unnecessary things on your behalf. You yourselves have some of the blame for electing idiots to do moronic things at great costs. Behind the idiot politicians are the idiot people who had a hand in choosing them. The good or bad results have to shared by all. It is too bad a major Canadian city metro region like Victoria thinks like some middle of ass end nowhere tiny village. It is embarrassing and unbecoming of the 15th largest metro area in Canada, a provincial capital too.

Some politicians are too low in common sense to even understand that some of their decisions in public, can negatively impact their PR image. History will have a record of politicians and their accomplishments. Building something grand will have a hugely popular image. Spending lots of wasted tax payers money on things that are not needed will not buy any popular points or a good spot in the history records.

Simple - just lower the speed limit to 40 km/h by default on any street WITHOUT a painted center line or median. Then post a couple signs at the Alberta and Washington borders and airports and ferry terminals.

Problem solved.

The BC road speed limit issue is a non issue. There are many other higher priority things to deal with. I think the speed limit should be going up like it is in Alberta and Ontario. The BC current slower speed limit is too low and out of touch with current reality.

I say lower it in Victoria. It is a congested place everywhere with short roads and people that are new and don't know the roads. fun getting hit by a car on a bike or walking and having too spend the rest of your life in a wheelchair paralysed from the neck down.

That is only because Victoria BC drivers seem old and spaced out or just simply spaced out mentally to be able to drive at higher speeds. Nobody should be deficient in their driving skills if they have faster thinking abilities and quicker reflexes. Victoria drivers are too slow and timid and that wastes time and block things up for everyone behind them. I'm sure other BC cities and towns are not as slow.

The proposal is only for residential streets. Major routes would stay the same. This is OK by me. I don't drive fast on residential streets anyway.

Imagine you had a house and a family. Would you want the cars going by to be going fast or slow?

Bicycle is an socially inferior form of transport and it denotes financially "broke". What are you going to do when you have a large load of purchases from a big box store during sales specials, drag the huge load home on your bike or take the public transit? Private vehicle owners and operators are the "nobility Lords of the road", not the peasants or serfs. The higher ranking the type of vehicle, the higher the Road Lord social rank.

The same goes for Victoria in general. If you can't make it here get out of the way, or those of us who can make it here are going to continue to run over your sorry ass.
Like they used to say when I was in the airborne, " if you can't hack it you can't stay".

Airborne are paratroopers who drop behind enemy lines as advance force and the prepare for the rest of the regular troops to follow up, late to the party as always. Do your NCOs or Officers throw soldiers off the plane if they get scared to jump? The Swedes have one of the most advanced armed forces huh?

Yes, they are dropped in as an advanced force, but also to do special ops, like blowing up a bridge or securing a bridge or assassinating someone.
Anyone who loses their courage during a flight and refuses to exit the aircraft is charged. This is because taking someone out of the line at that point is very disruptive and dangerous. Anyone can refuse a jump as long as they do it before boarding the aircraft. At that point they are stripped of their wings and lose the extra pay that goes with it.
I don't know what the Swedes have got. They are probably good, but not the best of all.

No problem, just look up Wikipedia on any country's armed forces and its component security forces. It is really entertaining in a educational sort of way.
