Oh, sure all employers are supposed to be good and all workers love them. That is what the PR Propaganda will say that. Check your current and potential future employers from past and current staff comments. Look up www.ratemyemployer.ca and other similar web sites. You will get tricked and the bad employers will get away with things if you don't do your homework.
HBC Zellers

I already missed Hudson's Bay Company/Zellers. I think many Canadians would have preferred if HBC kept Zellers and just modernized its image and upgraded. HBC abandoned Zellers too quickly. HBC and its divisions have some character and lots of history, not a "cheap knock off plastic store" like Target, Walmart, Home Depot, Rona, Canadian Tire, Safeway, London Drugs, Costco, Loblaws Companies, Sobeys/Thrifty Foods, Shoppers Drug Mart, Dollar Stores, Dollar Tree, Future Shop, Michaels, others.

Yes, I agree Hudson's Bay Company panicked and jumped too soon at shutting down Zellers. Zellers is a good brand to go head to head with Walmart, Costco, Loblaws Companies if they had more envisioned leadership. Zellers is more relevant than the Bay, Home Outfitters divisions because Zellers sold things people need every day, oral care products, soaps, clothing, food. People don't need to go to The Bay and buy a $100 shirt or a $20 plate at Home Outfitters every day.

HBC has a long history and therefore substance. The newest retailer on the block is just another "plastic store".

Why bring target to Canada? It is just a fancier looking Walmart. You should have more IKEA stores in Canada. It is Swedish. Swedes have more style and commonn sense.

I recently visited one of the Target Canada stores that have opened. The first month of opening was very busy and the parking lot was full of vehicles. 2 months after opening, the store was quiet and almost dead of customers and staff. I told people that I suspect Target will be like all the other retailers and lay off 50% of the new staff soon after the grand openings. I even said so on the comments blog www.ratemyemployer.ca forum.

I took a look at that ratemyemployer web site. They had some new staff ratings from Target Canada. The angry and disgruntled staff ratings are starting to pop up all over the place. Target Canada hasn't been operating for even a year yet. I don't think they are going to make it. Perhaps Hudson's Bay Company should have keep Zellers instead, or bring in more IKEA stores to Canada.

I once got bored of waiting in the insanely long lines at Walmart that I walked out and left my items there. I went to Target to buy the same stuff at a slightly high price and almost mo waiting lines at the cash tills. I would pay the extra dollar to shop at Walmart's competitors and avoid all the hassles at Walmart. I was never a fan of Walmart to begin with. HBC should have kept Zellers and upgraded it.
