Right on. I couldn't agree more. Vancouver has nothing to offer except most of the time lousy weather (rain rain , freakin's so much of it you could irragte some desert country with it), really small townish for 1.2 million, people are not friendly at all and city is swamped by Asians - I mean there are also other people from elsewhere, why do they freakin crowd into Vancouver . How can anyone call this multicultural. I guess for the Western Canadians from Hicktowns all over BC or Alberta this must be heaven on earth- so to speak as good as it gets. Coming from Toronto, I can tell you this place has ZERO diversity. I thought I'd move out here and live here, but I can't wait to head back east to Toronto. I think Toronto sucks in certains ways, but it sure as hell beats Vancouver at any given day. Don't think I will return when I leave.

Vancouver is so over rated, your right about the freaking rain. Most depressing place on earth to live and the 2 line highways are a joke. How can they even call this a major city. The only major thing about is the housing prices that aren't justified by the 11 months of rain that comes with it. God I hate Vancouver!

I am a born and bred Vancouverite...I'm 47 years old, and yessss..I DO remember the good old days...as soon as i can financially do it...I'M GONE!!!!...every body here is from somehwere else, and are rude as hell...friendly my ass..I work in retail and Vancouverites a pissy little fucks....get some goddamn perspective you Starbucks drinking yuppie scum...don't get me wrong..the scenery is awesome...but the rain is depressing as all hell....I've earned the right to bitch, having lived here from day one..and if you are a "world class city", why the hell do you have to keep advertising it?...I don't think most other world class cities in the world have even heard that term... We Canadians in general have a fucking inferiority complex anyway...

I was born in Vancouver almost 60 years ago, and have lived elsewhere, mostly in Toronto, since 1969, except for a couple of years in the early 70's

In the past year and a half, I have returned to Vancouver twice, after a fifteen-year absence.

Toronto used to be, by far, the rudest city in Canada. It is still damned rude, but far less so than Vancouver!

I am offended by my hometown. While much prettier than the dumpy, dowdy little settlement of decades past, it now looks as if it has been renovated by a committee of effete Hollywood set designers. Nothing but green glass - condo's, office buildings, EVERYTHING, of green glass! From the water, the skyline appears to be buildings of all the same height, and very stunted, at that, compared to Toronto and big American cities. And the phony "Pacific Central" bus station (formerly the CN train station). Is this a city, or FILM NOIR???!!!

I have never met so many rude people in one day, particularly anybody who has anything to do with buses. The trolley bus drivers of Vancouver are still the nastiest human beings I have ever met, anywhere, even snottier than they were fifty years ago, and they were pretty awful, then. Absolute PIGS.

Vancouver? Yecchhh. Keep it. I hope the Olympics are rained out.

The people are as boring, slow-witted, and UNBELIEVABLY PRISSY as they were in the 1950's, but these personality flaws are now attended by a complacent ARROGANCE, founded, perhaps, on the false assumption that they are somehow responsible for the beauty that nature has bestowed on their surroundings.

I have to agree with this site not only do they make it sooo dificult to go out but its so dangerous.. last night i left the club early around 11:30pm (because of course you have to get there at 8pm) but when i was going to my car right in front 5 police cars had stop a car and pulled out all there guns right in front of me I was soooo scared .. good times... i so going to move from here !!!

Hello, yes Vancouver is a Great place to live and work if you are from Hong Kong. My hubby and I grew up there in the Good Old days when things were still very normal, working class people and very nice people. The rain was very draggy and tiresome but at least the cost of living was within reason. Everyone we know has left for Alberta or other parts of Canada where buying a home is not ONLY for the very Wealthy or Illegal drug pushers. We came to small town Alberta and we so welcomed by so many lovely people and actually able to buy a home and have our family. At least here you are NOT bloody taxed to Freaking death to pay for a bunch of bums collecting Welfare. A world class city means NOTHING if its not affordable to anyone. Thanks, Carol.

I agree with you guys that a world class city and one of the most livable place on earth means nothing if the city is not affordable to the middle class. We are slowly being driven to the burbs by these million dollar condos. I hope the Olympics is a washed out affair and that the real estate prices crash thereafter. Maybe that will take us back to the good old days

I've lived in Vancouver for eight years, never in my life have I ever been so inclined as to stick to a very close circle of friends and just TRY to ignore all the crazy, ignorant, stuck-up, mamby-pamby, psychotic, out-of-it poseurs that this town is overrun by. I work in Yaletown at a print-shop and have to deal with people and their shallow concerns on a daily basis. Then on the way home, like a slap in the face I have to deal with all of the mentally deranged homeless and just hope my house hasn't been broken into so someone can smoke crack for half a day.
I constantly feel the pressure of a "dog-eat-dog" situation.
If I could buy my own home (something only accessible to perhaps 5% of the population) I'd surely install an alarm, and get insurance, but who wants to do that when you're already spending $900/month on a shitty hole-in-the-wall, that some slumlords call an "apartment".
The only thing this town seems to have going for it is a slightly better than-ok entertainment ie: Music, Arts, Dining, etc.
My neighbourhood (strathcona) looks like utter crap, there is still garbage from the strike, people let their dogs shit everywhere, and its just a little too close to east hastings for my liking.
I'm a firm believer that the reason why this town seems to be an epidemic for undesirables is because of the uber-relaxed hippy dippy the-whole-world-is-one-big-cul tural-melting-pot its all the governments fault, blah blah.
I'm sorry, I'm not a social worker, I'm not responsible for everyone's bad life choices, I get taxes removed from my paycheque that should be put towards eliminating the problem... forced detox? concentration camp? who knows... all I could ever want is for people to at least leave me the hell alone when I walk to work, and please don't smash my car window to steal a stick of gum.
Hell, I can't even laugh and enjoy myself out in public without some dickwad thinking I'm some easy-trick-mark and approaching me.
SUUUUUUUUUCK!
