Shipping a vehicle

#21 Sep 20, 2010
I got my quotes through Automoves ( ) as well. They had every major carrier provide a quote (except for Hansen's). I ended up going with the above-average quote instead of lowest price simply because of how I was treated by customer service. I guess "you get what you pay for" rule applies to car shipping as well ;)

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out who was the cheapest and had the best service? I was surprised to see so many shipping companies are fly by nighters and are no longer in business. I used J Simons fast car shipping and was very happy. There website is

J Simmons.. Fine but very slow
I used J Simmons in Jan 2011 to move my car from Montreal to Vancouver.
Every thing was fine for the exception that it took 30 days to get here.(Not the 12 to 14 days like the quote)
Also, the shipping yard in Montreal is very far and inaccessible by public transport so make sure you have a ride back after you drop your car
Terrific Service

"I would like to commend your staff on the excellent service that we received in June of this year. We had our daughters vehicle sent from Langley to London Onatirio,. Nancy looked after us at this end making sure that we would receive the vehicle when we flew out to London, Ontario. She was very pleasant and helpful as well as knowledgable. It was a pleasure dealing with Nancy.

When we arrived in London, Sheldon delivered the vehicle. He also was very pleasnat and helpful.
Both of these employees are a great asset to J Simons. I would without a doubt call Nancy should I ever require vehicle transportation.

Thank you very much to both"

"It is with pleasure that my husband and I send this testimonial to you this day . Thank you for your great professionalism during our recent transaction."
"I sent my daughter a car from Toronto to Victoria using your excellent service. You had one of the lower estimates, but I found that your service was exceptional. The calming voices at both ends were very helpful, friendly, articulate and reassuring when I had questions at both ends, especially during the Christmas holliday period. I would highly recommend your service in terms of price and taking care of customers at every stage of delivery. Thanks"

Montreal to Vancouver

My husband, Wayne and I felt compelled to write to you and your company to thank you for the recent experience in conveying a vehicle from Quebec to British Columbia. As novices in this from of transaction we began with a study through the Internet to research a secure and economical company: your website caught out attention and we were impressed with the prompt and very reasonable quote we were given. The transaction was confirmed after our conversation with you on the phone as our many queries concerning time of delivery, location for the drop off, whom to leave the keys with and the security at all times of our vehicle were all answered clearly and completely. With confidence we were made to feel very comfortable leaving our vehicle in the care of J Simons Fast Vehicle Transport. Needless to say our car arrived in record time at its destination in Vancouver and we were once again very impressed when you made sure that we were given the best possible fare to have the vehicle delivered directly to our daughterÂ’s home address. Your professional and gracious persona made the entire transaction a pleasure rather than a stressful affair. Rest assured that should we or our associates require assistance with the transport or relocation of a vehicle in the future we will not hesitate to employ your company.

With sincere thanks,
Penelope McTavish

I shipped my truck from Toronto to Edmonton through a trucking company, and after many repeated calls, no replies, and various threats, I got my truck back 68 days later, with some lame excuse, damage and the kilometers run up. I am still in the middle of that fiasco. I sent my truck back with J. Simons and it arrived in one piece one day earlier than expected. It was far cheaper to ship this way, and the service was better. I will never use a trucking company again

I used J Simon's and had a terrible experience, in fact I'm still waiting for my vehicle (they refuse to call me). Their claims about customer service are false, and once my vehicle is in my possesion I will be filing a claim with the BBB.
My vehicle has been in transit for over 30 days. It was shipped to the wrong city without a satisfactory explanation, I was hung up on by their customer service desk and their owner does not take any accountability for his error is mis-shipping the vehicle.
I cannot understand how their lack of service has kept them in business for 28+ years as reported above, but I assure you service like this will not allow them to realize their 30th anniversary.
I guess you were wrong...apparently they are still in business...and its been 35 years.

I shipped our family van through this past week from Edmonton to Toronto. I had to drop my vehicle off at their yard and it was delivered within 7 days. Andy was super helpful and everything went exceptionally well. Oh, and it was via truck not rail which I think is a lot faster option.

Don't use J Simons period. I had a vehicle that i need to ship from Ontario to Yukon. I dropped off the vehicle at the beginning of the month and told them i need it up there by the end of the month. They told me it be ok and that it be up there by the end of the month. Well so the day before i was leaving to go back up north, I get a call from the company that J simons outsource to saying my truck was still at the toronto yard. I told the lady on the phone that it must be a mistake as I was told the vehicle was shipped already doing the 9th and now it the 26th.. Behold the truth J simons had not ship my truck and yes it was still in there yard ..... so now i am back up north with out a vehicle can't get to work or even buy food. This will be the last time i use these guys as they are just a big scam

Just wanted to leave a positive feedback for Andy at Automoves. We needed to ship a Lamborghini for one of our clients in Mirabel, QC from Vancouver, BC and were on a very short deadline for customer's event happening at ICAR racetrack. From our initial call on Friday morning, the car arrived at 6am the following Thursday three hours before our deadline. We did get lucky and the cost was higher than usual but the guys put in extra effort to come through for us. Excellent service!

I shipped a vehicle through from Vancouver to Toronto. They quoted me 10-12 days from the time it left Vancouver. After 20 days I finally managed to get someone on the phone (they don't like to answer their phones or emails) and they said it would be delivered that afternoon. And then nothing. On Day 33 I got a hold of the same person and they said it would be delivered the next day. Then nothing. On Day 35 I tracked it down by contacting the shipper in Vancouver who told me it had arrived in Toronto on the 15 days after it was shipped. After I spoke with them and THEY told me where I could find it in Toronto the guy called me within minutes. They were not prepared to offer compensation for the delay. I would NEVER use this company again.

I would not use J.Simons or AutoRail shipping ever again.

The service was SLOW and the representative (Gerry) who worked on my case was extremely UNRESPONSIVE. He never replied my emails about vehicle arrival after I paid upfront the full amount and dropped off my car in their yard.
It took over 7 weeks for my car to arrive and then another full week of calling and follow ups before I grabbed hold of Gerry from AutoRail to arrange the time of my vehicle pickup.
If you're looking to avoid the painful struggle, just avoid using this shipping company all together.

Even after we set up a time for pick up, Gerry sent me the WRONG pick up number. There was no worker from AutoRail/J.Simons to answer my questions after I inspected my car.

It was a very frustrating experience and I would not recommend this shipping company to anyone.
