You're right man. I turn my back on my own country. A true American would not vote for that thing.

The economy was starting to recover and that SOB squashed it by giving bad news. Sometimes I think he is trying to ruin it so that he can say that it was not recovering during Bush's term.

The economy was not starting to recover and it will be hard on Obama inheriting so many problems that where left behind by Bush. Obama had nothing to do with America's current problems, but it will be up to him to try and fix it. He is now picking members to his cabinet and I see he is picking the best of the Clinton era, this is a good choice because Clinton did balance the budget that Bush unbalance. I say we should give Obama a chance, but it will be hard for you if you have a lot of prejudice against his skin color

You people are idiots. The Economy was like a 747 spiraling straight down into the ocean with Bush in the cockpit laughing all the way. He just gave obama the controls at the last minute and said "Yeah good luck with that" and jumped out of the plane with the only parachute.

Bush ruined the economy and many other things during his reign of terror.

The economy's well-being has nothing to do with what the president does. We have a clock-work trend which brings us to greats highs and great lows all the time. The more technology we introduce, the greater the ups and downs become. This depression was supposed to begin in the 90's, but the internet boom boosted us up another 10 years, and then a short housing run for early 2000 to about 2005. Before you say that the economy's drop is Bush's fault, don't forget that the economy was declining in the end of Clinton's term, and it obviously dropped during 911 for obvious reasons, and had a good bounce from 2003 to 2005, and the back up again in 2007 before the next plummet.

The economy works much like the stock market. if you know anything about it, you'll know that most things that "boom" are based on speculation, and when things are priced well above what they are worth, the price is going to plummet to at most, its actual value, usually less than that as people sell in panic. We are seeing the beginning of that drop, and will see some rebounds as each drop occurs. The heart of the depression will occur in about 2012-2013... maybe even as late as 2015. It will not recover until about 2023 based on typical trends. This will actually be a relatively weak and short depression due to the internet boom, which boosted us up and prevented the initial depression we should have had. Thank our economy and businesses for that one, not any of the presidents. While the president can provide relief during bad times, he has no actual effect on the economy itself. Yes, we are getting relief now. But the price will be higher taxes for the rest of our lives. The more debt we acquire, the more money ships out to other countries and foreign entities because of the interest we pay on it. 25% of our taxes goes to other countries. Can you imagine how much easier life would be if we were not in debt? Not only would taxes be 25% less, our government would be rich and able to work for itself rather than take money from us. A government with money is a government able to invest that money. We could be taking interest from other countries, paying ourselves, and enjoying a free ride.

We must blame all presidents since 1940ish for these terrible times. They spent money we didn't have. They shipped our money overseas. And our wealth continues to go to other places. When will it stop? Nowhere near the reign of Obama. He just doubled our debt, and doubled our tax rates for the next 30+ years just to pay it off. Do you like your personal credit card debt, paying interest all the time and never paying it off? Try having the government's debt, where 50% of what you make is interest towards that debt. Good luck paying that mistake off, Obama. Bush too, he should have kept taxes higher to pay that debt off, and hacked away programs, and never gone to war. Every president before him as well is to blame, just to less of a degree. Obama = worst president ever. Get a business man in office, or we will surely burn.

As I remember it, the economy's troubles began with debtors not paying to banks etc. what they had agreed to pay, and as a result their houses and/or their other collateral was taken over by the creditors. It is quite normal that when there are very many people/banks etc. trying to sell, then the price they will be getting will be (much?) lower than "normal". As a result of these "bad debts", lenders tightened up the requirements for new credit, to make quite sure that they would get back all of their money as agreed and on time in the future.
..... Because many people lost their jobs, or were/are expected to lose their jobs, they were/are now no longer credit-worthy, and therefore couldn't/can't borrow enough to pay debts that were/will be coming due. Misery led/leads to even more misery, and the downturn is still continuing as long as people keep losing their jobs because businesses aren't able to sell enough.
..... No president dictates which debts you can and cannot pay, nor does a president decide who is going to be a "bad debtor" and therefore will not get any credit. Looking for a scapegoat? LET FREEDOM REIGN? Freedom to borrow too much too? Freedom to spend more than income too? Freedom to blame presidents and/or other politicians for something they didn't do?

What do the majority of voters in the USA and Canada look for when they vote for their politicians that will likely rule their country after the elections?
..... Businesspeople at least know that operating a country is somewhat like operating a very big business, and that running more and more into debt will eventually cause a LOT OF TROUBLE! When, where, and how much trouble? Maybe ALL those in opposition should always provide enough money to prevent that trouble instead of providing their cheap rhetoric? OH YEAH?

you people are really a bunch of retards. obama is spending this country into debt. he has never done anything for his country except be a politician. no military service. thats great for a president in war time. obama is just another clinton and we all know how he delt with the bin laden and the taliban in the 90s. oh thats right he didnt. so all of you keep supporting obama and his whore of a wife that isnt even proud to be american and you can all rip this country apart that we are all over here fighthing to keep from going to shit. the economy was great during bush's time. the only people complaining are the lazy people. get of your lazy ass america and get a job. its not the governments job to support you. get of wellfare and stop kickin it on the block. if you cant afford to feed you family you prolly dont need a caddilac on 20s. we havent been attacked since 911 but with obama and his great change i bet we do in the next couple of years. thats the way america.

Obama is NOT the president of Toronto. Given that there were massive demonstrations regarding Sri Lanka's separatisrs, close to the USA's consulate in Toronto, it all has gone quiet there apparently, with normal traffic. Anyone know what the USA's official position was/is related to these recent massive demonstrations in several countries (In the USA too?)? Did they achieve anything other than making many people aware of the (end of the?) problems in Sri Lanka?
