There is so many stereotyping, generalizing, and assumptions made in these comments...only reason I actually searched this topic is hoping to find someone who has a sense of humor, because my gf was upset how the french government treated her when she was asking for help to get her papers renewed.(She has a scholarship to get her phd in France.) As for obesity...half the people in USA..including children and adults..It happens when you have more electronic and digital entertainment rather than something that encourages being physical active.(Besides sex).. Farmers are becoming less as everything is becoming manufactured, so even people who are trying to be healthy have a hard time getting something that's actually nutritional..hence you'll find some people starting their own little gardens now as they get older. Most american's are ignorant of other cultures, but I find that to be true in most countries..unless they are third world countries or in countries that have many oppressed people. As far as economy..the bigger the country the harder it is to switch over to newer systems..especially when oil companies are not government owned, but privately owned corporations. In general..at the moment europe's economy is in a decline, where as usa's economy is in a slight incline..not anything to brag about..the biggest downside in France is only if you plan to try to get rich while in France...it's much harder to do, because of all the benefits the french government tries to give it's people..so it's a trade off of government support vs personal wealth. Space travel?...every country has some problems taking care of the earth itself...could probably learn a lot more just by continuing to understand how this earth works before going exploring..and finally...there is no guarantee that America would be British or France German.. Really both were a collective effort to accomplish one goal, which presumably..could have been accomplished more than just 1 way..as most things can be...just wish could have seen more humor on here, since I'm not good with jokes..

uhm...all your reasons are biased...
-France does have a space program : CNES
-France is the 3rd Nuclear super power in the world and and although it may not be a super power, it's a world power.
-we have disney world aswell ??(although i don't know how that makes you better than another country...)
Now on to doing a little reality check :
France, part of the EU. lets its citizen have acces to uncharted free health care and social services.
We have one of the lowest crime rates in the world (sorry but we're not the ones with school shootings and i feel much safer with my kids here than in the US, just for that reason alone)
Our economy isn't crumbling ( we don't have 50 trillion + debt)
Also might i add that the US prides itself in being a military super power...and thus if there was no war you would make barely any money from all your defense firms )
France has much better living, we don't have gang infested suburbs and the cops here actually don't fuck up when they raid a house for criminals...
Now that having been said i'd love to see hot the US is better than France... the way i see it ( not offense to any US citizen, i've lived in the States long enough) the US is a decaying superpower that prides itself on the way it wages war, it's education is a mess, the social and medical system is basically one of the worst around.
The states is a nice place to visit...but i wouldn't live there for anything in the world (if i had to live there...Hawaii that's it )
anyway that was my opinion, and i've lived in the States, Canada, France, and i am going to China soon

Okay guys it's time for the truth. Now listen carefully what I am saying. I'm not American nor French. However, I lived in France and Awesome America (1 for America - france 0 already)
France is a great country but com'on you can't compare it to Awesome America that's like Packers playing Notre dame in Football. Or Manchester United vs Lens (second french soccer divison)
But I'm not Manchester or whatever. I'm the referee and I have to be fair fot both countries so I'll give 65 (goals or touchdown) to 7 for france.
France would compete better with Italy I think. Although they may lose again because I live in Italy as well and their wine and fasion style life are just Mammamia !
