before Metrolinx’s investment strategy that will be distributed to the Province and municipalities by June 1st of this year ...

All for naught unless Mayor Rob Burton actually starts fighting gridlock in Oakville. Since he has become mayor we have seen hundreds of acres of farm and forest cleared to make way for shameful car dependent sprawl. The new parking garage at the Trafalgar GO has caused nothing short of gridlock. Now Burton wants to build a large, multi-level where the Post Office on Church St in downtown Oakville. Downtown Oakville cannot support hundreds of more car parking spots especially when the only way to access downtown without going through 40km residential zones. Rob Burtons answer to gridlock is to build more parking spots and car dependent sprawl. Rob Burton must go!

Metrolinx created The Big Shift into Oakville Wednesday for a conversation with citizens on how it can enhance transport in the position.

The conference at the Halton Local Center was to talk about Metrolinx’s The Big Shift effort — a 25-year and $50-billion strategy to deal with traffic jams and enhance transport accessibility, incorporation and performance in the Higher Greater and Hamilton Area (GTHA).

It was the first of 12 roundtable conversations occurring across the area.

“From my viewpoint, it’s a very essential conversation that impacts us all. It’s how we get to perform, how we get to university and how we navigate around our areas,” said Bruce McCuaig, Metrolinx chief executive and CEO.
