Brace for cold, Canadians warned

“I always think it's good for the economy when weather is behaving like it should, when winters are cold and summers are hot”

With the exception of only small pockets of northern Canada and southwestern Ontario, this December through February is forecast to be one of the harshest winters in recent memory across the country, said ... via The Globe and Mail

It's and unusual sight out my door, a dusting of snow greets me, in Vancouver. More forecast for today. Up to 13 centimeters.

I'm going out with my dog to some nice hilly streets and watch the action as Vancouver virgin snow/slush drivers get expensive lessons. It's great entertainment and I love turning down the idiots when they ask for a push. I tell them they should have stayed home or brought more friends.

The first question that always pops into my mind is where ITF do they have to go on a Saturday that's so important to drive?

Very few seem to have the brain capacity to switch mental gears and perhaps try out the transit system it seems.

The mental atrophy of humans is the limiting factor for our species. The end/crash point is clearly visible to me on the horizon, as predictable as human nature and the weather.

Snowy 400 Series Highway causes crashes Too

An ice-covered stretch of Hwy. 400 south of Barrie is the site of multiple collisions involving as many as 30 vehicles, OPP officers say.

The highway was closed from Mapleview Dr. to Innisfil Beach Rd., but has since reopened.

Const. Dave Woodford of the OPP said the situation began when two vehicles collided. Since then, numerous vehicles travelling south have been sliding off the road and into the ditch.

The OPP received the report at just before 11am

"It's so open there," Woodford said. "You get the blowing snow across the highway and that's what's causing the icy conditions."

He said that no one has been seriously injured.

Officers did attend the scene.

Hwy 400 through Barrie up to Highway 11 to Huntsville......now there's a stretch that is a nightmare when you got high winds/snow.

2 winters ago I left Barrie on a fairly clear night.Got north of the city and it was BRUTAL!
From Bracebridge to Huntsville is like 40 km(approx) and it took me 1 hr 15 mins....seriously.

You know the expression,'I couldn't see the front of my car'....well,I experienced it.

Anyways.....lots of snow on the ground where I live and currentl -17c. So where are ya now Al Gore?

I remember once driving home in the middle of the night during a blizzard on the 401 from the Darlington Nuclear power plant (Phase one) to Waterford Ontario.

The shift got off at 1 am and I got and the highway in my Pontiac, after having operated a Mac Triaxle super six all day. The wind was drifting but visibility was good.

You might not believe this but I met no oncoming traffic in all those vast east bound lanse going through TO, not a single vehicle in either direction did I encounter.

I stopped once to get some cardboard on the rad and to roll a couple of joints. I have never ever seen all that vast pavement as empty since. the blowing snow made it surreal and the tall like lights drifted into view like ufo's coming in for landings.

I kept to the speed limit, made great time.

Cold Enough For You ? 1 hr ago | Caffinara

My inlaws, who live in Victoria, which boasts the warmest climatic zone in Canada, they even grow palm trees there, told me, despite having the warmest temperatures in BC today, there was still snow on the ground ...

I've already got the snowblower attached to the lawn tractor and the plastic cab on it. With 2 1/2 foot drifts in the driveway this morning, guess I'd better get my butt in gear and get the yard cleared. With this long range forecast, looks like this is going to be a regular event. Oh well, part of what makes summer more appreciated LOL. Thank god the seasons change, at least for the time being.

Within five minutes of leaving the front door I saw my first accident yesterday. That was it though. Not much traffic, too.

Maybe everybody read my wise posts, eh?

It's good too see people getting smarter.

My Arctic Wolf is spending and uncommon amount of time inside.

It sure looks like he has turned into a candy assed Vancouverite

I think I know who you might be.

let me get guess. You are a pretty, tall, joy-filled Arian Budist lass, with a woolly white friend.

Did you know that a couple of enterprising white guys actually cycled to the gold fields during the Yukon gold rush?

You also know that I might be daring in my words, but today I know enough to leave my bicycle at home when things get slippery.

The rational decision making properties of marijuana at work, eh?

Have a great day J....!

Cold winter, hot economy.

All the suckling states of the former USSR are now going to find out what MARKET PRICE means, good old capitalism at work.

HEY, it's what the world wanted, orange monkeys, rose fairies and purple assed dorks in the White House.
