From the story posted Smith seemed pretty familiar with guns, and when was the last time you read a story about several law abiding citizens getting into a gun fight?
Wasn't much of a fight, but I believe that Texan who called 911 about his neighbor's house being broken into (late last summer?) and then the man went and used his gun reasonably well against the perpetrators. He was found to be within legal limits.

Before that was Cheney, again, not much of a fight but he did get a lawyer.

The breaking in is a bit different,I meant when both sides were law abiding this case had a crook who got crocked, and Cheney well that's what happens when guns get in the hands of morons.

Well I should know him better then you all...he was my brother and all of these comments you folks are putting just proves how ignorant you really are. I don't know where the author of this article got the information from, but i can tell you that spoke with the detective, and it did not happen where they say it did. The detecive say's the other guys story doen't seem true giving his past record, but the only person who knows the truth is dead. The other guy was shot in the thigh...If I pull a gun out trying to shoot someone in the same car as me, i dont think I will aim for his thigh, and seeing how my brother was also the one driving the car, it doesn't add up. Now why would you risk a fight while your driving??? All you can say is "ANOTHER THUG OFF THE STREETS" as if you knew who he was and what went down. Now God forbid your sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, cousins or friends get caught in something like this, the last thing you want to hear is strangers bad mouthing them, but hey...everone can't have a heart now can they? God bless you all, and I hope you all have a great life

I'll have trashy Tammie/Slappy send you some cookies.
BTW - Your brother lead the thug life which is celebrated in Far Rockaway and all crime ridden slums like it. He was a 'victim' of his own culture.
And, if your brother lived by your mushy pretentious BS 'God bless you all, and I hope you all have a great life' he'd be around today.

He would have survived if he acted like a civilized human being. One less thug on the streets.

ya know what - you're right. none of us knew him at all. all I know is that he was a 19yo carrying a gun in NYC [against the law]. knowing that is all that's needed for me. sorry - I gotta side w/others who don't feel bad for him.

According to the Onion, Julius Smith was an aspiring model for Ralph Lauren until his jealous companion pulled the trigger to the young mans dreams.
