Nobody said benefactor, so don't be guilty. I think they meant money from the parish till.

<quoted text> Well, they are a lot more Polish people in the Buffalo than Irish. and Poles have held onto their language and culture much more tenaciously than any other other Latin rite groups. The irish and others were Americanized early on, which in some ways brought them some advantages in church leadership and the political world. among Eastern Catholics, Ukrainians and Armenians have kept their languages.(An Armenian liturgy in any language other than Armenian would be unthinkable, almost an oxymoron.
You make it sound like holding on to your language and culture will not make you American! Can't you be American and speak another language too or will that make Americans feel inferior. Assimilation is against Catholic teaching . Diversity is not just about gays and women priests.

What Catholic Churches are in Lovejoy? Which are alive and which are dead? This is a serious question.

If the school does not have at least 500 students, it is not feasible to keep it. Period. If your Church is not supporting itself, it is not feasible to keep it. Period. That is the bottom line. It has nothing to do with the Bishop, the Pope, The Church, or anything else you can think of. Fill it and you can keep it. Simple!
You DRANK THE KOOL AID! A number of schools kept open cannot hold 500 students (cf. St. John Vianney, CKS Snyder etc.)
There was a "Rubric", guidelines, about science labs, computer technology, cafeterias, green space, art and music. Schools that met all the rubrics (cf. St. Bernadette etc.) were closed, schools that did not were left open.
Look at enrollment trends: School with tremendous drops (Nativity of our Lord, 40% over the last few years) were kept open. St. Francis Tonawanda -- increase in enrollment and truly "serving the poor" closed.
The STAR of the Diocese, Notre Dame South Buffalo-- received $825,000 from the Diocese! Our Lady of the Sacred Heart about $4,000. St. Bernadette -- NOT A CENT.
And where has the money given to Notre Dame gone? Drive by and see the light show! How much did the sinage, image of Mary and ND Leperacaun (sp.) Cost? IT TOOK OVER A WEEK TO INSTALL! What about ND's PAID SEGMENT on WNY Living on Ch 2 last week.
Labor's not cheap -- but since the Bishop is ANTI-UNION they probably got a deal.
The process was tainted. Rich benefactors and political operatives and paid spokespeople influenced the whole process.
Sister Carol is a old coot who has no idea what is going on. Dr. Kostyniak is an IT person with no real background in education. Does Timmel have hear tor soul?

Notre Dame has begun a $100,000 Capital Campaign. For what? MORE LIGHTS? MORE SIGNAGE? MORE TV COMMERCIALS!

When will we ever get a Bishop without the elitist attitude of NYC or Boston? GIVE US A SHEPHERD! Give us the TRUTH!!!

Polonia will not be dead the week of April 14 - 21 !
Easter week - Holy Thursday, the Seven Churches, Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Blessing of the baskets, Swienconka, Easter Sunday, and of course the ever popular Dyngus Day - which attracts more people downtown and to the Polonia area than St. Patirck's Day does !
Come to Polonia that week and enjoy our Polish heritage and all of the festivities !
Polonia exists for only one week every year. You call the drunken and lewd behavior of Dyngus Day authentic Polish heritage. People from Poland would laugh their rear ends off at the thought of that. No one lives in the Polish East Side. How can you say it is alive. I bet 90% of those who you say attend your beloved Dyngus Day events live outside of the Buffalo City line. Like I said Polonia is DEAD!

Polonia is where the heart is. At St. Stan's , St John Kanty, St. Adalbert, Corpus Christi, St Casimir's. At least when there is something Polish at these parishes it's authentic. As authentic as it can be in America. When they try to be ethnic in the suburbs it's just tacky and downright comical. Would you judge the faith of the Irish by their St. Patrick Day Parade? Even though they don't have anything better than jumping up and down it still wouldn't be fair.

Don't forget to watch Bishop Burnette's ordination on EWTN tomorrow. It is very five-camera production and should familiarize bloggers with the Byzantine Liturgy (also used in Orthodox churches)
