I'm just amazed that Congress gave the Department of Defense $150 mil for breast cancer and 15 m for lung cancer. I'm so happy that you will be on this panel Dr. Weitz. Now while you are there, if you could just find a way to make sure that the Big Pharmas, etc. don't stifle anything promising that may come through, just for cancer in general. I personally am stage 4 NSLC and have never smoked as well, but I don't think these companies want a cure, it's just too big a money maker for them. So if we could just get the promising cancer cures....whatever they may be, through, by the FDA approval, then it's worthwhile to continue with the funding and research that is so needed for Lung Cancer......Breast Cancer has more than their share. Thank you and I wish you much luck.

Of course the Big Pharma's don't want a cure for anything. They make their profits with marginal treatments. This is the same reason that the ACS, ALA, AHA, ADA, and the rest of the phony charities don't want cures. Cures would put the greedy bastards out of business! Congress should yank the tax free status from all of those phonies.

Happy,
I don't think there will be a cancer cure . we need to think more in terms of prevention than cure . There are many groups with cancer rates of less than one in a hundred whose cancer rate goes up to one in four when they adopt a Western diet and lifestyle.

I agree, no cure for cancer as long as the American Cancer Society and Big Pharma can prevent it.

Let's not forget the FDA. They have waged a smear campaign against electronic cigarettes, which are a thousand times safer than regular cigarettes, yet Big Tobacco gets a pass. The stench of greed and corruption far outweighs that of the second hand smoke from every cigarette burning in the world at this moment.

The old panel was anti-tobacco, new new panel is anti-nicotine. Johnson and Johnson owns every pharmaceutical nicotine replacement on the market...until e-cigs. The message now is that nicotine users are a scourge to society and should be denied employment and health benefits. All those people who successfully kicked their tobacco habits are still second class. Now tell me that philosophy isn't due to big Pharma losing it's nicotine replacement monopoly.

I am a 42 yr old female, 25-year vegetarian, love animals and love laughter and love life, very healthy organs and body EXCEPT I've just been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer (NSCLC). They tell me it's on both sides in both lungs and therefore inoperable, and that the dreadful "chemotherapy" is my best option. Haven't seen an oncologist just yet, but I am devastated of course. Trying to find some hope in this situation. Is there any hope or am I just fooling myself?
