Liberals call for Tory ministers to be fired for their role in royalty rates
- Alberta's Liberal leader is demanding Premier Ed Stelmach fire several ministers he says lied to the public about the province's royalty rates.
Kevin Taft says a report by the auditor general tells a different story than key government officials have revealed to the public. He says as a result Energy Minister Mel Knight and his predecessor, Greg Melchin, who is still in cabinet, must lost their jobs.
Auditor General Fred Dunn's report, released Monday, suggests the government hid information for at least three years showing royalties could be increased by at least one billion dollars per year without hurting the energy industry. Read moreFull Story

Dunn's report suggests no such thing. He does mention that the politicians were receiving inconsistent messages from the technical staff regarding the appropriateness of royalty rates. Dunn's report was on the process of royalty review, not the royalties themselves.
