good article, nice to see other carriers going to cuba, and maybe some americans will have the chance to see cuba as it really is,(although if they stay in Varadero not much chance of that)
But wtf comment from state department guy, implying Havana not safe, its a risky trips. What crap, havana is one of the safest cities anywhere, that's perfect fear mongering designed to scare off wary americans. too bad that was included in article unchallenged, another example of how media manipulates reality. I'd put havana up against ANY city in America when it comes to safety.

Havana is very safe, unless you walk around with a gold chain around your neck. As any other places , there are some petty thieves but no violent theft unless you do everything to get it, like flashing a ton of money . We mostly have to watch for the waiters and store clerks, like the most notorious one is the negro who work at the liquor store in the Havana Libre Hotel building, he ALWAYS give you less than supposed to, for change and then you look at him in the eye and he give you the missing 5 or 10$... he try to rob me every time I go there.

Very true!I remember that thief!The black man I'm talking about must be in his 30's and is a tall man!About three years ago I went there to buy a bottle of Havana Club 15 years,which was market at 60 euros! when he gave me the change; there were 4 euros missing.I reported him,but nothing happened.So I believe he is sharing the stolen money with his supervisor!
