Re LG Model #LRFC22750ST

Just happened to me this morning. Funny smell when I opened the fridge. Pulled out a loaf of bread and the bag was melted. Then I noticed that the temperature display panel was falling down. The light switches at the door hinge seem to work now. When the bulbs cooled down I pulled them out. Why would LG put 2 60 watt bulbs in a small place like a fridge? Called LG service and after about 20 minutes they told me that they have a technician coming over in 8 days!! I wonder what parts they will bring with them. This is the fourth maintenance call to LG for service since the unit was purchased in August, 2006. Door seals, bad drawers, faulty motherboard and now melted plastic.

Similar/same thing happened to me. Returned home after approx three hours to find the light shield housing and digital sensior control display and light bulb housing and fallen. The plastic had melted and deformed. Sensor Control board appears to work. Plastic housing and sheild will have to be replaced.

I have an LG LFC22760 Bottom Freezer. Yesterday evening I noticed that the fridge was warmer than usual. Immediately my thoughts were that the compressor had blown, however I quickly learned that the two overhead lights continued to stay on despite having closed the doors. Upon attempting to unscrew the two bulbs, I also learned very quickly that when they are illuminated for such a long time, they get Hot! I then noticed the black around the socket, but luckily no melting that I observed from the light shield. Long story short, I turned the fridge off and let the bulbs cool, then removed them to allow the fridge to cool again. It was today that I learned about the continuous problems with this and similar product models because of the various forums posted. Does anyone know what the direct cause is attributed to? Is this due to the main motherboard and what would this cost. Or is this a simple fix with the door wiring harness. There is also a release by the Ontario Fire Marshall regarding this very issue identifying all of the models.

Well I contacted LG and explained my problem. I was advised that this was an ongoing issue with various models of the bottom freezer and the mother boards. They requested my model number etc and within 2 hours I had a service rep contact us and advised that they would be replacing the mother board and interior fixture at LG's cost. Today, July 19th everything was replaced! LG was true to their word and I am extremely satisfied. Hope I dont have any additional problems in future. Contact LG with your complaints and see where it gets you.

We experienced the same issue last night. My husband noticed the light bulbs/casing was extremely hot. You could not even touch the casing and the fridge area at the top was warm. Then my son smelled burning in the fridge. We shut the fridge off and removed the light bulbs. I immediately checked the internet and was amazed at the number of blogs that were posted by consumers who experienced the same problem. I contact LG this morning and they are sending a technician Tuesday morning to replace the parts. At no cost. We would like to have our complaint recorded and also would like to know why LG did not send out recall letters to owners of these refrigerators. Does anyone know how who we should contact (Consumer Affairs Canada?) The problem is a serious fire hazard and who knows how many other owners have no idea that this is a serious defect.

Ditto here... woke this morning to melted plastic, hot food and smoke in our fridge! Called LG Canada, 1-888-542-2623, they immediately scheduled us for a FREE service call. In the meantime, my fridge will remain bulb free! Scary to think what might have happened had we been away on vacation... totally agree with comments above - this issue needs to be dealt with by LG proactively, i.e. recall these units!

Thanks for the info LJD, had the same issue today, called LG and booked my FREE service call and parts replacement. Definitely concerned about the 'what if' scenario of being away for a weekend or longer...hope the new parts truly address the underlying issue.

This just happened to my LG fridge as well. It melted the plastic, sear the bulb housing unit and broke the lens. Luckily we noticed it before any food spoiled. I've had to replace the ice maker unit twice, the fan motor in the back of the fridge and now this. Also, several plastic pieces have broken and the drawers won't open as well as they used to. I thought they fixed these problems in previous years. I was supposed to hear from an LG service person, but this will be day 3 and I'm still waiting for their call.

Just came in from shopping and discovered the light fixture melted by the heat of the light bulbs inside the fridge. There was meat products that were hot and had to be thrown out.
This is an L G model #LFD22860SW. It was purchased at Sears.
We have also had bad door seal gaskets.
We think that this is a lemon.
The service tech came right of way and parts are on order. Thank god we had the 5year extended warranty but it will expire in June 2013. What then?

Had the same problem and just called LG - within 5 minutes they had scheduled a technician to come out this Friday to fix for free. A disconcerting problem though as this was a major fire risk - hopefully this solves it.

We've been waiting for a month to have something done about the same problem. There was a warning from the national Fire Marshall's Office about dozens of models with this fire hazard.

I burned my wrist, and had to throw out hundreds of dollars in food and LG has been stalling me the whole time. Last night they emailed me, offering just over $200 for a pro-rated rebate, despite the fact that the Fire Marshall report said that LG will either repair or replace the fridge if it was damaged, covered under a lifetime warranty.

When we finally were able to get an LG authorized repair man out a few days ago, he faxed LG stating the fridge should be replaced and not used because of the damage and fire hazard.

If you check online, you will find a class action lawsuit about this same thing in the US a few years ago that LG lost. We Canadians are getting shafted with this. The store owner said that when the problem first started, LG instructed him to replace the units, no questions asked. I will be going to a lawyer with this if I don't get the same, plus reimbursement for the lost food and burn.

Also going to be checking with the Fire Marshall next to see if more have been reported. Please add your stories, especially more serious ones so more can be done about this. If the top of the fridge is damaged, just replacing the part should not be enough compensation. Perhaps we need a class action suit as well.

Same thing happened to me this morning. I went to get the margarine and it was melted. I put my hand under the lights and it felt like an oven. I called LG and they said they will send a technician to fix it on Tuesday.

Good luck with took me over three weeks to get someone out, as no one responded...of course they didn't bother to tell me that, and when I called the first tech's # after a week of no response, I got a recording that they were on vacation for a month. The second one, same thing. There was a wonderful repair company in Ottawa that had serviced this fridge several times since I bought it, but LG cancelled their contract. They wouldn't come out unless I paid them and then would have to try to get reimbursed by LG myself.

Since my fridge is past warranty, they only offered me $275, prorated, instead of the full replacement that they stated would happen on the National Fire Marshall's Communique...a lifetime warranty.

I responded in a not so nice manner, and their next offer on Friday at closing time was a store credit for wholesale cost, not full retail. I wanted to discuss it with my husband and said I would get back to them. I emailed this morning, asking them to call me again, but haven't heard anything.

My advice...don't let this sit too long. Make sure someone has confirmed an appointment tomorrow and get full replacement on this. There was a full class action law suit in the US for this problem.

I'd be happy to chat more if you'd like to connect privately (not sure how though). Good luck with everything.
