Personally, I don’t have a big problem with mentally ill individuals being exempted from the murder charge and the penalties that go along with it. However, I do become more than a little annoyed when they’re pronounced cured by a panel of experts a few years later and quietly released back into our midst with no warning. All too often, these “cured” people reoffend and a member of the unsuspecting public pays the price for the panel’s overly optimistic decision to release the offender. Perhaps a law should be enacted which requires that any patient released by one of these review panels must move into a house next door to them
